Berlinale Talent Campus searches for the next generation of filmmakersAt the Berlinale Talent Campus the spotlight is on the next generation of filmmakers. Alongside numerous lectures, discussions and screenings of films about “Home Affairs - Privacy, Films and Politics”, 350 up-and-coming filmmakers will have the opportunity to gain valuable insight into the practical aspects of filmmaking. To make this happen, the Working Campus, the hands-on laboratory of the Campus, offers a diverse range of events. An entire building, the HAU3 in Berlin-Kreuzberg, will be dedicated to the Working Campus programmes. Talents can apply to participate in the Script and Doc Clinics (development for screenplays and documentary film treatments), the Volkswagen Score Competition (sound design and film music composition), the Talent Project Market (co-production), the BerlinAngelsDay (insight into the Berlin film industry), the short film competition Berlin Today Award – and, for the first time, the Garage Studio supported by Apple, the new initiative of the Berlinale Talent Campus. Short, fast and digital – Movies made for the net The Garage Studio is the new core of the Working Campus, taking the Berlinale Talent Campus into unmarked cinematic territory. The internet is increasingly open to new film media and presents unprecedented challenges to the film industry. During each day of the Campus, international Talent-teams produce a ‘Garage Flick’ - a digital short film - to be instantaneously and exclusively presented on the internet with the support of the Campus’ new main partner, Apple. Unconventional and full of creative energy, drawing upon all the possibilities that this way of producing films can offer, this programme combines the practical teamwork on concrete film projects with a critical exploration of new formats, narrative structures and distribution and production possibilities. The prominent role that Apple and its products play in this environment makes them a key partner in helping to put on this programme. The ‘Garage Flicks’ podcasts will be available on the Campus website (www.berlinale-talentcampus.de) and from the iTunes Store directly after completion. Additional podcasts created by an Apple film team will capture select Campus events and interviews with both Experts and Talents. Prominent Berlinale guests will accompany the young filmmakers along the way by mentoring them during the digital filmmaking process. Among them is Hong Sang-soo, who raised eyebrows with his 1996 debut The Day a Pig Fell into the Well, establishing him as the most important contemporary Korean director. On February 15, the final day of the Berlinale Talent Campus, the ‘Garage Flicks’ will be shown on the big screen. They will be presented to the public together with the Talent-teams and the mentors of the Garage Studio on the stage in HAU1. 08.01.2007 | Editor's blog Cat. : Apple Berlin Berlin International Film Festival berlinale energy Entertainment Entertainment Hong Sang-soo Technology Technology Volkswagen Year of birth missing FILM FESTIVALS
