Cannes selection committee revealed

Thierry Frémaux, Artistic Director of the Festival de Cannes, has appointed the members of the selection committee for Cannes 2004 and finalised the list of correspondents working abroad.

Two separate committees will watch films in Paris, one committee for foreign films (which account for about 70% of screenings) and another for French films. These committees have an advisory role, all final decisions being made by the Artistic Director.

The Selection Committee for French Films
Gilles Lyon-Caen, Lucien Logette, Philippe Piazzo

The Selection Committee for Foreign Films
Virginie Apiou, Guy Braucourt, Paul Gransard, Laurent Jacob

Foreign Correspondents
Joël Chapron (Central and Eastern Europe), Lorenzo Codelli (Italy), Mamad Haghigat (Iran), Christiane Peitz (Germany), Brice Pedroletti (Asia), Agnès Poirier and Simon Perry (Great Britain), Jose Maria Riba (Spain, Latin America), Ilda Santiago (Brazil), Magda Wassef (Mediterranean countries).

The closing date for entering films this year has been set for March 25th 2004. All entries to be sent to Département Films du Festival, 3 rue Amélie 75007 PARIS, or registered on line at: www.festival-cannes.org.

The Festival de Cannes will take place from Wednesday 12th to Sunday 23rd May 2004.

This is the first time Gilles Jacob and Thierry Fremaux have revealed the former best kept secret, most likely linked to the flow of criticism received after the 2003 selection.
