Cine Las Americas fest

7th Cine Las Americas International Film Festival,
April 21-25 2004

Cine Las Americas Media Arts Center presents the 7th Cine Las Americas
International Film Festival, scheduled April 21st through the 25th, at
various venues in Austin, Texas.

The 2004 film festival offers a wide selection of new Latin and Native
American cinema, bringing together the newest artistic creations,
socio-political events and cultural expressions from people and places
in every region of the continent. The festival kicks off Wednesday April
21st at the Alamo Drafthouse Downtown with the long-awaited Austin
premiere of Nicotina starring Diego Luna (Y tu Mama Tambien, Frida), and
continues through Sunday April 25 with a selection of more than 60 films
from 12 countries in the Americas. Films will be screening at the Arbor
Cinema at Great Hills, The Millennium Youth Entertainment Complex, and
the Hideout Theater

Some of the highlights of the film program include: a strong presence of Brazilan Cinema; the inclusion for the first time of Native American feature films; a challenging selection of feature documentaries; new views in the realities of immigration and globalization; praised works of low-budget cinematic art; and films made in Texas and by Latinos working in the United States.

As always, youth are an important part of the program. "Emergencia" is the youth component of the festival, which includes films made by creators no older than 19, and chosen by students at Johnston High School.

Films will be screening from April 21 to 25 at the Arbor Cinema at Great Hills, The Millenium Youth Entertainment Complex, the Alamo Drafthouse, and the Hideout Theater. For a complete schedule and tickets, visit http://www.cinelasamericas.org.
