Doris Dorrie's new film to open Hamburg Festival

Filmfest Hamburg catches European Premiere Doris Dörrie’s film DER FISCHER UND SEINE FRAU opens the festival

The 13th Filmfest Hamburg opens with the European premiere of the German comedy DER FISCHER UND SEINE FRAU. The leads are played by Alexandra Maria Lara, Christian Ulmen, Simon Verhoeven and Young-Shin Kim. Incessantly fascinated by the topic, Doris Dörrie asks in her latest film once more
the question, whether men and women actually suit each other.
“Every German film festival wants to open with the premiere of a top-class German film. If on top of this the film is by such a well-known German director as Doris Dörrie, there is even more reason to celebrate,” says the delighted festival director Albert Wiederspiel.
“For the audience as for the media, Filmfest Hamburg is one of the most important festivals in Germany. We are honoured that we own the privilege to open Filmfest Hamburg with the European premiere of “Der Fischer und seine Frau”, says Thomas Peter Friedl, President Distribution & Marketing of Constantin Film AG.
Dynamic women, helpless men, talking fishes, dreams and daily lives, the love of one’s life and coincidence: Doris Dörrie lively transfers the fairy tale of Ilsebill, the frustrated wife of a fisherman, who has a habit of sending her husband to the magic butt to get her wishes fulfilled, into the 21st century. Alexandra Maria Lara plays the fashion designer Ida, who still dreams of more than life has to offer her with Otto (Christian Ulmen), a specialist in parasitism. Yoko (Young-Shin Kim), the girlfriend of Otto’s best buddy and colleague Leo (Simon Verhoeven) is not satisfied either. “All women are Ilsebills who have been saying for generations: I want it all – a job and
children, a career and love,” says Doris Dörrie.
“The woman always wants more because the man does not want anything. They are
mutually dependent and that is the story...”
For more than twenty years now the director of films and operas, author and producer Doris Dörrie has been playing a prominent role in the German film industry. Her first box office hit MAENNER (1985) was followed by feature films like PARADIES (1986), HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TUERKE (1991), KEINER LIEBT MICH (1994), ERLEUCHTUNG GARANTIERT (2000), NACKT (2002). Doris Dörrie was awarded with numerous national and international prizes for her films.
The premiere of DER FISCHER UND SEINE FRAU takes place on September 22, 2005
at the CinemaxX Dammtor at 19.00 hrs.

The 13th Filmfest Hamburg takes place from September 22 to 29, 2005 in the
cinemas ‘Metropolis,’ ‘CinemaxX Dammtor,’ ‘Abaton,’ ‘Ufa-Palast Grindel’ and ‘3001.’
