EcoVision - Palermo inaugural Fest of environmental cinema

EcoVision - 1th edition International Festival of environmental cinema
(Palermo, May 27 / June, 1th. 2005)

In late May 2005 the first edition of the Film Festival EcoVision will take place in the most prestigious monumental centres of Palermo.

During the Festival we will expect the arrival of very important personalities with a leading role in the survey of the environmental protection.

We will also offer cashprizes and benefits to those who will take part in the film festival.

The festival is chiefly a cultural event so that the subjects related to the ecosystem problem and the natural habitat includes several meanings.

As a result of that all the filming subjects will deal with both nature and the relationship between man and the natural habitat along with all the issues closely bound to the before mentioned subject.

By means of the documentary films we will also deal with the difficult problem concerning the urbanization and the relationship existing between man and the loss of nature in large urban areas.

Actually, all the towns have always given cultural initiatives and enterprises an apparent meaning of events capable of producing the effect of gathering people by putting money or convenience before some more important values closely related to the safeguard of the natural environment.

All the urban areas lacking the greening of public parks and the oxygenation of gardens cause not only the ugliness created by human activity which involve any architectural shapes but also means the end of human relationships and of any possibility of cultural exchange among the inhabitants coming from the different urban centres

Another important aspect deals with the strong relationship existing between the natural habitat and the development of the culture itself, which means putting questions concerning the different examples of urbanization processes developing in the different countries of the world and which will be represented through the films of the directors coming from the different continents.

Although the festival means to represent a socio-cultural event it also intends to promote new technical audio-visual languages fit to describe the ecosystem problems; as a result of that one of the most important aims of the festival is to award prizes all those film directors who can easily provide information about the natural environment so as to be able to make the learning processes related to the most burning questions easy to understand, see and hear.

Audio-visual equipment is not present in schools or at least it does not include videos and cassettes suitable to keep students informed about the environmental protection and respect. As a matter of fact we have produced a film show for students in order to screen it in the morning. The name of the project we are going to get is known as Ecoschool. Actually any student attending the schools of his country hardly ever gets information about the most important national Parks present in his country and hardly ever get any ideas about the problems strictly connected with the traffic jam, the urban centres along with their negative troubles.

In addition the Festival will represent an opportunity of meeting and discussion even about some rules and guidelines to follow in order to defend the environment and also a chance to show the importance of the art of the cinematography and its way of communicating to the public.
