Fateless new entry in the Berlinale Competition

The 55th Berlin International Film Festival is pleased to announce that the Hungarian-German-British co-production Fateless will screen in this year’s Competition.

The film is based on Hungarian Nobel Prize winner Imre Kertész’s book of the same title, which depicts the Holocaust from the perspective of an adolescent boy. Kertész also wrote the screenplay for Fateless.

Renowned cinematographer Lájos Koltai’s (Oscar nomination for Malena) directorial debut portrays the fate of Budapest’s Jewish community under Nazi occupation.

The film stars Marcell Nagy, Áron Dimény and András M. Kecskés and features music composed by Ennio Morricone.

The announcement of the inclusion of Fateless in the Berlinale Competition was possible only after the programme has officially been closed.

“We are happy that we could still include the film at this very last moment”, said Berlinale Director Dieter Kosslick. Fateless will screen on February 15 in the Berlinale-Palast as part of the Berlinale Competition and as an international premiere.

The film Heights by Chris Terrio which was originally scheduled on this day will not be presented at the Berlin International Film Festival.
