From Woodside to Ireland and Back: Aidan Bishop at The Craic Comedy

as the days get darker and shorter, don’t let those winter blues get you down! Prescription: an evening in the hip 116 Macdougal on Saturday November 7th, that brings together a showcase of Irish comedy talent from across the Atlantic and NYC, as the second annual Craic Comedy Festival returns, with headliner Aidan Bishop!

Fans, friends and followers of The Craic Festival had their fix of the best of Irish short films and music with Mark Geary’s stellar performance at 54 Varick Street at last month’s Wee Craic. Our next outing is guaranteed to put a smile on your face with lots of laughs and a guarantee of what The Craic does best: a night’s great entertainment and fun…that’s why it’s the Craic! Expect to see some familiar faces dropping by, while also providing a platform for new and breakthrough comedians.

Native New Yorker Aidan Bishop began his comedy career in his hometown and since relocating to Ireland he has honed his craft as organizer and resident MC of the now famous International Comedy Club in Dublin. However his ambitions have not been confined to the small borders of the International. In the past two years Aidan has appeared in all major Irish festivals, including the Kilkenny Cat Laughs and Dublin’s Comedy Carnival. In 2008 Aidan made his Edinburgh Fringe Festival Debut with his solo show, Bachelor Pad to critical acclaim. His television debut came with RTE 2's Savage Eye as part of 'Project Ha Ha'. He returned to Edinburgh in 2011 with Mispelled, a show that was born out of his personal experiences of dyslexia.

The Craic Comedy will take place 116 Macdougal – a new venue for the festival at a well-established New York institution with a rich entertainment heritage. Craic Comedy will expand the Craic program to four events a year (together with the Craic in March, the GLBT Film Program in June, and the Wee Craic in September.)“Aidan Bishop is the perfect fit for the Craic Comedy, as his own personal brand of humor is a great mix of Woodside wisecracking with Dublin attitude” says Festival Manager Lucy Healy-Kelly. “Comedy makes for such a sociable night out, and there’s some really fresh talent coming out of Ireland right now – Aidan combines the best of that energy with a very New York sensibility!”

As if an evening’s top class comedy wasn’t enough, this year as always the Comedy Craic will have a VIP pre-reception and also promises good times at the after party including a guest DJ, sponsored by Tullamore Dew whiskey.

So bring along some friends, make some new ones, enjoy an evening of laughs…It’s all part of the Craic.

The Craic Comedy takes place on Saturday November 19th at 7pm at 116 Macdougal. Doors at 6:30PM.

Advance tickets are $15 and are available online on Ticketweb.com.
