Important German presence in Moscow

No less than 16 German films and two German-international co-productions are being shown at the 26th Moscow International Film Festival (18 –27 June 2004).

Germany will be represented in the competition for the St. George Award by OLGA'S SUMMER by Nina Grosse. The film tells the story of 16-year-old Olga who lives with her father and brother at a petrol station in the countryside and is ready for life, love, adventure - in fact, for everything that would take her away from her boring everyday life...

In addition, the Panorama section will be presenting a total of four German films and one co-production: GATE TO HEAVEN by Veit Helmer, STRATOSPHERE GIRL by M. X. Oberg, DETROIT by Jan Christoph Glaser and Carsten Ludwig, LEARNING TO LIE (LIEGEN LERNEN) by Hendrik Handloegten and FAST SOULS by Pasquale Marezzo (Italy/Germany).

HEAD-ON (GEGEN DIE WAND) by Fatih Akin will have a Special Screening in the presence of the lead actress Sibel Kekilli. Moreover, there will be presentations of LOVE IN THOUGHTS (WAS NUETZT DIE LIEBE IN GEDANKEN) by Achim von Borries and THE OTHER WOMAN (DIE ANDERE FRAU) by Margarethe von Trotta as Special Screenings. The actress Barbara Sukowa will be present in Moscow for the screening of DIE ANDERE FRAU since she is also a member of this year's International Jury.

The German-Slovakian co-production KING OF THIEVES (KOENIG DER DIEBE) by Ivan Fila will be shown in the competitive section called Perspectives .

Finally, a retrospective will be presenting eight films by the director Alexander Kluge: YESTERDAY GIRL (ABSCHIED VON GESTERN, 1965/66), ARTISTES AT THE TOP OF THE BIG TOP. DISORIENTATED (DIE ARTISTEN IN DER ZIRKUSKUPPEL: RATLOS, 1967), OCCASIONAL WORK OF FEMALE SLAVE (GELEGENHEITSARBEIT EINER SKLAVIN, 1973), IN DANGER AND IN DEEP DISTRESS, THE MIDDLE WAY SPELLS CERTAIN DEATH (IN GEFAHR UND GROESSTER NOT BRINGT DER MITTELWEG DEN TOD, 1974), GERMANY IN AUTUMN (DEUTSCHLAND IM HERBST, 1978), THE POWER OF FEELINGS (DIE MACHT DER GEFÜHLE, 1983) and THE BLIND DIRECTOR (DER ANGRIFF DER GEGENWART AUF DIE UEBRIGE ZEIT, 1985) as well as a selection of his TV films.
