WILLIAM FRIEDKIN and Russian director ALEXANDER SOKUROV both attended the Torino Film Festival for the most extensive retrospectives of their work to date. A third retrospective featured Greek and Italian works by the late STAVROS TORNES.

Among the Torino Film Festival’s other guests were JOE DANTE, presenting LOONEY TUNES: BACK IN ACTION, out of competition. In addition to the International Competition and Out of Competition sections, the Torino Film Festival featured “DETOURS” (American experimentals and international innovative video works), “AMERICANA” (vital and original US works, which included a focus on FILM NOIR, international premiere's of Bernard Shakey's (aka Neil Young) GREENDALE and Clint Eastwood's PIANO BLUES and a restored version of Mel Stuart's 1973 music documentary WATTSTAX).

This year’s Torino Film Festival also featured homages to American underground filmmaker STAN BRAKHAGE, Portuguese master JOAO CESAR MONTEIRO and Japanese action director KENJI FUKASAKU.
