Media & Entertainment panels at Imagina February 3 to 5
Stereoscopic imaging Moderators: Mireille Frenette and Benoit Guerville, Wide Productions 10:30 - 12:00 Avatar Avatar, currently being released on theater screens around the world, is already a technological achievement and a precursor of things to come in the world of filmmaking. In this light, imagina is proud to present an exceptional event: a technical conference with key members of Lightstorm Entertainment who developed Avatar (the film), and Ubisoft Montreal, responsible for Avatar (the game). This unique event will be an opportunity to hear about the studios' learnings and views on the use of stereoscopy, as well as on many other aspects that are making this so spectacular a project. > Richard Baneham, Animation Supervisor, > Xavier Rang, Animation Project Manager, 14:30 - 17:30 - Stereoscopic imaging - Part 2: Meeting practical needs In the afternoon, we will examine how companies of all sizes can now produce, direct and distribute stereoscopic CG animation and films, with presentations by stereoscopy professionals. > Pascal Herold is a key player in the French post-production industry. After launching and helming Duboi Duran in the 80s, he currently heads Studio Delacave and is working on his second CG feature film, a retelling in 3D stereo of the Cinderella story. He will give us a behind-the-scene look at his project and share his experience on the impact that stereoscopy has had on both the technical and artistic aspects of this production. > Bernard Mendiburu, Expert in Stereoscopy, is an expert in stereoscopic films. He has worked in Hollywood as a consultant on such major films as Meet The Robinsons and Monster vs Aliens. He is also the author of 3D Movie Making, Stereoscopic Digital Cinema From Script to Screen. He will present a tangible and practical reflection on stereoscopic storytelling stemming from his experience in major U.S. studios. > NVIDIA, Speaker to be determined, is a key player in the world of computer graphics with internationally acclaimed graphics cards and real-time solutions. NVIDIA's new tools now allow any computer-equipped designer to produce or display pre-calculated or real-time stereoscopic images for visualisation, games, film or any other computer graphics application. NVIDIA will demonstrate how simple it is to implement a stereoscopic computer graphics pipeline. > Philippe Gérard, co-fondateur, 3DLized. Stereoscopic imaging can also be done without the help of dedicated tools or specialised CG studios. French company 3DLized is one of the few providers in the world to have developed a complete solution to create stereo images powerfully and efficiently. This technique can transform almost any image into a 3D stereoscopic image. As 3DLized co-founder Philippe Gérard will show, the benefits of this approach are many, as it not only gives a second youth to old content but also creates stereoscopic images when other technologies are not available.
Programme subject to changes, speakers to be confirmed
