The San Sebastian Festival is pleased to welcome two new members of staff who complete its network of international delegates. Alex Masson will be our new delegate in France and Curra Ortiz de Solórzano head of relations with Latin American cinema.
In addition to the above, Marichu Corugedo will be responsible for coordinating, from the Festival, the award granted by technical companies in Madrid as part of the Films in Progress initiative.
This year also marks the end of his collaboration with the Festival by José Mª Riba, who has been a member of the Festival management and selection committee for many years and has, in recent years, held the position of professional activity coordinator. Following this long and productive collaboration, we would like to publicly express our gratitude to Mr. Riba for his contribution and dedication and wish him all the very best in his new professional endeavours.
ALEX MASSON
38 years old
Autodidact, built his job abilities and knowledge from a devourishing passion for cinema. Became a critic so he could keep going the movies when he was so broke he couldn’t afford to feed this passion.
Works as a film critic for many french media since 1990. First for local press in Toulouse, then as a freelance journalist for national ones (among others : Premiere, Les Inrockuptibles, Radio Nova, Glamour…)
Co-creator of Extreme Cinema, film festival dedicated to marginal movie cultures happening in Cinémathèque de Toulouse since 1998.
Hopes his curiosity for any kind of movies, coming from any horizon possible will never dried, so it continues to makes him learn about how the world is going on.
MERCEDES ORTIZ DE SOLÓRZANO
Mercedes Ortiz de Solórzano (Madrid 1953) was a producer-programmer with Spanish Television for thirty years.
From 1994 until 2001 she was head of Spanish and international film purchases and Director of the External Production Department.
She went on to become an Executive Producer with ARTE/TVE and Director of the Noche Temática evening dedicated to a specific issue.
From 2004 until 2005 she was Director of the Executive Production of Cultural Programmes and Documentaries and, from 2005 until 2007, Director of Programming for Spanish TV’s channel 2.
MARICHU F.- CORUGEDO
A producer of feature films, her productions include La Playa de los Perros (1985) andLoco Veneno (1987). From 1989 until 1991 she was the executive producer of a 13-episode series for TVE entitled Mucho Cuento and, in 1992, of the documentary feature film Valencia: Un Mar de Luz. From 1993 until 2007 she was the Commercial Director for Estudios EXA.
In 2006 and 2007 she was a member of the Jury for Screenplay Development (ICAA-Instituto de la Cinematografía y de las Artes Audiovisuales); in 2005, member of the Assessment Committee for Aid to Post-production (Bogotá-Colombia); in 2004, member of the Jury choosing the winner of the Spanish Premio Nacional de Cinematografía and of the AVID Documentaries Jury.
In 2002 she participated in drawing up the “Libro Blanco del Sonido en España” (published by the Asociación de Industrias Técnicas del Audiovisual Español), an association of which she has been Deputy Chairwoman since 2003.
She has been connected ever since its creation to Films in Progress (Industry Award).
