The Oulu Music Video Festival & Air Guitar World Championships in
Finland will take place for the 11th time between 25th and 29th August.
Music on the screens and at the clubs, with and without guitars.

OMVF PROUDLY PRESENTS: FILM & VIDEO PROGRAMME
The film and video programme sniffs out the trends and shakes the
music-filled memory slots of mankind. The Music Video Festival has
compiled not only Finnish videos and films but also international
productions into special screenings. Metal lovers are treated with the
praised and much talked about Metallica documentary Some Kind of
Monster. Finnish metal is represented by a Nightwish documentary and a
Lordi short film called The Kin. An international maestro introduced
this time is the renaissance man Spike Jonze by way of his music videos.
We also present Finnish director Pete Veijalainen in the form of a
retrospective.

This year we wave the French flag in several screenings, from the
prehistory of music video to today's most stylish animations. Electronic
music continues its video fireworks, which is confirmed by brilliant
French videos as well as Cinema Electronica screening by RESfest from
the US. We also dig into the prehistory of music video by means of the
French avantgarde cinema.

The Director's Cuts training for professionals and students is now
arranged for the fourth time. This year the topic of discussion is the
development of music video from the perspectives of content as well as
distribution. The international instructors at the training include
music editor and curator Sandy Hunter (RESFest/Toronto) and the members
of animation collective Pleix (France).

THE FINNISH MUSIC VIDEO CONTEST
According to tradition, the festival features a contest for all new
Finnish music videos, with 168 of them taking part this year. An
international and independent jury selects the best videos, and the
contest reaches its climax on the fabulous Pumpeli Gala Night on Sat 28
August at the Madetoja Music Hall.

AIR GUITAR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Those desiring worldwide fame can still enter the Air Guitar World
Championships: the final day of registration is August 13th. National
competitions in the art are organised in as many as 12 countries
already, and the competition climaxes in the World Championship Final in
Kuusisaari on August 27th. The stage is also filled by monster metal
group Lordi as well as primal garage rock band The Flaming Sideburns and
a Belgian air band Air On Maiden.

A two-day High Altitude Training Camp is arranged at the Virpiniemi
Sports College on 25th and 26th August, providing a warm-up for the real
test in Olympic spirits. The people in charge of the lectures and
workshops this year include former Air Guitar World Champions C-Diddy
and Juha Hippi with the topics "Practical Training" and "Onto The
Stage". The camp also features the creation of a solid choreography as
well as discussion on the schools of Air Guitar and the Zen
characteristics of the art. Everybody is welcome to participate in the
camp regardless of size, appearance or Air Guitar skills, and the camp
does not oblige participants to take part in the actual competition.
