Martin Scorsese Masterclass in Cannes

Pirate in the Cannes bay

Sean Cronin the producer of the modern-day action film 'Pirate.' is sailing the pirate ship The Reaper to the Cannes Film Festival to promote the movie and to dwarf all the plastic-fantastic yachts in the bay?

PIRATE is an action/adventure/suspense/thriller. A powerful, violent and bloodthirsty tale of modern day pirating. A 21st Century swashbuckler with treasure, adventure, keel hauls and mutiny, but now with the added advantage of navigational devices and anti-tracking systems.

Character driven at a relentless pace, this film will captivate its audience, taking us on a vivid twisted journey full of suspense, violence and surprises. A heady combination of drama, action and thriller combines to make a compelling tale about a mysterious and blood thirsty man who leads his pirate crew on a brutal mission of greed, lust and murder.

The mysterious CAPTAIN HELLMANN is a compelling protagonist- leading a crew of the nastiest, pirates ever assembled. Yet HELLMANN is almost likeable, a charming and gifted tyrant and so we are readily drawn into his world as we search for his motivation and the reason behind such ruthlessness.

Alongside the imposing HELLMAN is LUCKY, a handsome rogue; He’s sex, drugs and rock and roll and adds much needed glamour to the ugly team; KNUCKLER, ROPE, TWITCH and SNIFFER, display perfect physical attributes for the special talents they possess and these characterisations become simultaneously disturbing and self-explanatory. Included in the ensemble are OLD NICK, ROGER the cabin boy and NATALIE the much craved for love interest. THE STRANGER somehow holds the key to HELLMANN’s secrets. WESTBOURNE is the man on the trail, his mission to stop HELLMAN and his crew at all costs.

Set primarily on the menacing 200ft Minesweeper ‘THE REAPER’ Painted a daunting matt black, she sports a huge luminous skull and crossbones on her flying bridge. The Reaper sails stealth-like around the Med and The Caribbean robbing, raping, and pillaging yachts owned by people with too much money. Having previously cased their assets, they silently approach and board with hi-tech laptops, hack into their bank accounts, relieve them of all their money and then slaughter them without mercy. Everything is going fine for our pirates until a stranger arrives……….!!

‘As the formidable black hull of the THE REAPER cuts like a dorsal fin through the normally peaceful Mediterranean Sea with unsettling malevolence we become witnesses to the horror that unfolds. The pirates are about to wreak hell in the playground of the rich and famous…..’
