Resfest stops in Montréal

RESFEST The best shorts, animation, music videos, motion graphics and features.
Coming to Montreal November 25 – 27 at Ex-Centris

RESFEST is coming to Montreal! The global film & video extravaganza, RESFEST 2005 is traveling to 35 cities on six continents for its ninth annual international tour and, for the first time, will be presented in Montreal.

The RESFEST Montreal team, which includes Victor Shiffman (Transform Media), Yanick Letourneau (Périphéria productions), programmer Danny Lennon (Prends ça court!) and Paul Shore (Guerrilla News Network) have joined forces to present an exciting and diverse program from around the world. With the successful launch of RESFEST Toronto and a stop in Vancouver’s newly minted Vancouver International Film Centre, RESFEST 2005 lands in Montreal November 25 - 27, at the Ex-Centris complex.

RESFEST showcases a full slate of the world's most forward thinking shorts, creative music videos and streetwise documentaries. The festival has the honor of presenting the Canadian premier of Just For Kicks, a feature length documentary from Thibaut De Longeville and Lise Leone. Just For Kicks explores the roots of today’s thriving sneaker culture, from its beginnings in early 1970’s New York to today’s global network of buyers, artists and collectors. Also included in the program is the Montreal premier of Ginga, a feature length documentary produced by Fernando Mereilles, acclaimed director of City of God and The Constant Gardner

The festival also includes three short film programs including new and award-winning works from Jared Hess, Gaelle Dennis, Miguel Arteta, Johan Kramer, Eduoard Salier, Chris Cunningham, Nakd, and Stylewar; two music video programs "Cinema Electronica" and "Videos That Rock" including new videos for Chemical Brothers, Dizzee Rascal, Aesop Rock, RJD2, Four Tet, Bloc Party, LCD Soundsystem, Quasimoto, Arcade Fire, Lemon Jelly and Flaming Lips; and "By Design", a showcase of visually arresting and thought provoking motion graphics and design-based animation. A new program addition is Cut & Paste, a DIY program has been added to reflect the wealth of collage, sampled footage, and handmade filmmaking submitted to the festival this year.

This year's RESFEST programming also includes a video retrospective of the prolific and genre-busting music pioneer Beck, his entire catalogue from the breakout "Loser" to his most recent work with Motion Theory for "Girl," featuring videos from Michel Gondry, Spike Jonze, Mark Romanek, Stephane Sednaoui and Shynola. Also on tap is a director retrospective on Scandinavian superstar collective

Traktor, whose award-winning work includes the most award collection of TV commercials in ad history, music videos for Basement Jaxx, Fatboy Slim, and Prodigy and never before seen gems from the their archives. The RES "Triple Threat" program forecasts three of the most talented up and coming directors on the planet - Nagi Noda (Japan), Jonnie Ross (USA), and Francis Vogel (France).

In addition to our global touring program, RESFEST Canada is proud to present CanCon, a selection of the year’s best shorts, animations and music videos from Canadian creators. RESFEST has been in Toronto each fall since 2003, and we are very excited to taking the festival to a national audience in 2005. Past award winners of Cancon have included digital artist and director Jaron Albertin and Toronto-based studio collective, Ghostmilk.
