Once again this year, the Montreal World Film Festival (Montreal International Film Festival), the 29th edition of which will run from August 26 to September 5, 2005, plays host to a large contingent of Latin American films. A total of twenty-three works will be screened this year, some of them from well-known directors like Miguel Littin (The last moon), Raoul Ruiz (The lost domain), Bruno Barreto (Romeo and Juliet get married), and Sylvio Caiozzi (Cachimba), who is also a member of the 2005 MWFF jury.

The noted contemporary journalist, writer, and thinker Ignacio Ramonet conducted a seven-hour interview with Fidel Castro, who relates the entire history of Latin America as well as Cuba. His son, Axel Ramonet (Fidel Castro, Conversations with Ignacio Ramonet) directed the film.

Also noteworthy is that this year Bolivia has entered an excellent film in the First Films World Competition entitled Say good morning to dad. The film tells the story of the death of Che Guevara and the mythology that has grown up around him in Bolivia.

Aponte (Puerto Rico, USA), Thirst by Mausi Martinez (Argentina), Fidel Castro, Conversations with Ignacio Ramonet by Axel Ramonet (France, Cuba), Muxes: authentic, fearless seekers of danger by Alejandra Islas (Mexico), Pablo – the poet’s lives by Dario Baldi (United Kingdom, Italy, Chile). The enchanting beauty of Brazilian music is captured in the film Brasileirinho by Mika Kaurismaki (Switzerland, Finland, Brazil). Lastly, Favela Rising by Jeff Zimbalist and Matt Mochary (USA, Brazil) has been included in the selection.
