This year's winners at Stockholm International Film Festival

After an incredibly strong line-up the jury has now made their decisions and present the winners of the 22:nd edition of Stockholm International Film Festival. The 7,3 kilogrammes heavy Bronze Horse for best film goes to a film with intelligent dialogue, brilliant photography and astounding performances from the actors - a perfectly painted portrait of a generation.

This year's Bronze Horse for Best Film is awarded Oslo August 31 by Joachim Trier.

This year's jury consists of director Whit Stillman, actress Iben Hjejle, director Lisa Langseth, photographer and director  Jens Assur and producer Sandra Harms.

Please find all winners below followed by the motivation of the jury:

Best film: Oslo August 31 by Joachim Trier
Motivation of the jury: In this film we get to know the man who had all possibilities in a fantastic world, but failed to do anything with it. It is an uncomfortably honest character; both to himself and the world around him. Clever dialogue with an underlying tone of humour, breathtaking cinematography and truthful acting makes this film a perfect portrait of the director's generation.

Best directorial debut: Paddy Considine for Tyrannosaur
Motivation of the jury: The fantastic acting performances in this film takes us into a raw and painful reality where rage meets vulnerability and together they try to find calm and reconciliation. The director shows a mature and skilful storytelling which makes us want to see more from him.

Best script: Nadine Labaki, Thomas Bidegain, Jihad Hojeily, Rodney Al Haddi for Where do we go now?
Motivation of the jury: This film succeeds to, in an unsentimental way engage us in the fate of these characters and the consequences of living with differences. The film makes us laugh, cry and in a humorous way ask ourselves "Would war exist if women ruled the world?"

Best actress: Yohanna Idha for her role as Linda in Certain People
Motivation of the jury: For a touching and compelling portrayal of a rampant and somewhat naive woman, who, in the course of one night becomes a target for mockery by a party of hipsters with unfulfilled ambitions and broken dreams. This actress manages to deliver even the most awkward banalities, with a perfect balance of sincerity and comical timing, and thereby never letting her character become a victim.

Best actor: Sergei Boriskov for his role as Andrei in Twilight Portrait                                                                                                Motivation of the jury: We would like to honour a man who through his performance manage to visualize the darkest rooms of his society. With help from a fantastic director he lifts the realistic acting to a new dimension.

Best cinematography: Jakob Ihre for Oslo August 31
Motivation of the jury: From the first frame to the last, the cinematography captures both the agony of the main character and the ongoing world around him with an impressive attendance.  The camera does not perform any tricks, instead the imagery is intimate and atmospheric. This film is both distinctly and sensitively filmed at the same time.

Best Music award: Khaled Mouzannar for Et maintenant, on va où?
Motivation of the jury: As the film over all the strength in the music is its ability to with a stable hand combine entertainment with content, the easy accessible with the heavy questions and drama with musical.

Special mention: Actress Olivia Colman for her role as Hannah in Tyrannosaur                                                                            Motivation of the jury: For an outstanding performance as a woman who overcomes her troubles and tries to find good, even in the darkest corners of human behaviour.

Special Mention: Director Julia Leigh for Sleeping Beauty
Motivation of the jury: For its ability to provoke and at the same time start an intellectual discussion about the things that it hurts to talk about.

Best short film: Beast by Attila
Motivation of the jury: With an exquisite use of wide shots, this film takes us to an environment of modern-day slavery seldom exposed in fiction. It's a brutal portrayal of a patriarch falling a part, and leaves the audience with the lingering question: who is the beast - the slave or his master?

The FIPRESCI jury's decision
This year's jury from The International Federation of Film Critics, FIPRESCI, consists of Blagoja Kunovski (Macedonia), Beat Glur (Switzerland) och Katharina Dockhorn (Germany).

Best film selected by the FIPRESCI-jury:Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy by Tomas Alfredson
Motivation of the jury: The director is highly proving his great talent in making a political thriller which richness is fulfilled by the excellent cast and the visual perfection.

OTHER AWARDS:

Stockholm Film Fund                                                                                                                                                                         Goes to director Lisa Aschan and producer Anna Maria Kantarius for the film project The Deposit.                                        Motivation of the jury: A bold and original vision for a mind-bending and stunningly current film that begs to be made now, now, now!

Telia Film Award                                                                                                                                                                              Telia Film Award goes to Silver Tounges by Simon Arthur                                                                                                    Motivation: For an elusive and deeply troubling study of the human mind - and, arguably, our need to defy the pettiness of daily life. Echoing some of the darker, early work from icons such as Martin Scorsese, Alfred Hitchcock and Claude Chabrol, Silver Tounges raises a series of non-trivial questions in the borderline between game theory and behavioural sciences.

Silver Audience Award
Stockholm International Film Festival's audience award 2011 goes to 50/50. Other films that won the hearts of the audience were Certain People, Drive and Martha Marcy May Marlene.

1KM Film Award 2011                                                                                                                                                                       1KM Film Award 2011 goes to Gustav Danielsson director of Tvillingen.
Motivation: For a scripted and visually unique universe that combines surrealism, philosophy, technical brilliance and warmth with odd and lovable characters. Despite the obvious correlation with his artistic upbringing, the director shows a clear, strong and original artistic world on the highest international level.

The Jury's honorary mention: Peter Grönlund for Gläntan
Motivation: Nerve, darkness, social pathos and cinematic energy. It was a long time since we experienced an equal hunger and will to fight for the stories of the weak and the social outcasts. The honorary mention in 1 km film 2011 goes to Peter Grönlund.

Winner of Jameson ifestival:
Little Theatres: Homage to the Mineral of Cabbage by Stephanie Dudley

Stockholm Lifetime Achievement Award 2011                                                                                                                           Isabelle Huppert is awarded Lifetime Achievement Award 2011 with the motivation:
Ever since The Lacemaker, Isabelle Huppert has spun her threads of many colors into her artistry. These threads, bursting with emotions, insights and experiences, are woven together throughout her unforgettable film portraits. Fearlessness and contemplation are the opposing poles in the space where her characters are created and exist. She is the muse to the greatest of film auteurs, and at the same time, her own incomparable auteur.

Stockholm Visionary Award 2011
Alejandro González Iñárritu is awarded Visionary Award 2011 with the motivation:
Alejandro González Iñárritu takes us on a journey from the slums of Mexico through the underground of Barcelona, to the neon lights of Tokyo, where he manages to depict globalization from an individualistic perspective. He creates stories that tell both our own personal experiences and of the world, by carefully weaving together destinies through storytelling where the whole is always bigger than the parts.

L'Oréal Paris Rising Star 2011 - Malin Buska
Motivation: A young person's life choices are revealed with impressive precision. A person with what seems like a hard outer shell, but an inner frailty, transformed before our eyes into someone who assumes a brave responsibility for her future life. Balanced on a knife-edge, this is beautifully and sensitively played by Malin Buska in Happy End.
