Women Behind the Camera: Nominated for the Palme

Agnès Jaoui and Lucrezia Martel's films premiered the same day, include a music theme and were created with veteran fathersand/or producers. 'Look at Me' has been well received, the script is intelligent and the acting performances excellent. It is a film made for 'Cannes heaven'. Agnès Jaoui, is the partner of French veteran Jean Pierre Bacri, who plays the father 'Etienne', "a self-obsessed writer who ignores his daughter"; Agnès, plays herself - the singing teacher Sylvia Miller who doubts her own and her pupil's talent; Pierre Miller (Laurent Grevill), is Sylvia's husband, a would-be author and also Agnès real life husband. This is also the screen debut of Marilou Berry, the daughter of French actor-director, Josiane Balasko.

Jaoui discussed 'the devil in the details of script writing', joined by the actors who worked with the acclaimed material at the press conference. 'Lament for Lolita', said the director, "could be the title of the film for the subject deals with anorexia, "a big problem in France".

Martel’s previous film "La Cienaga"was a well-received thriller and accordingly she thanked her producer and executive producers at the press conference: the Almodóvar brothers: Augustin and Pedro who attended the premiere with the actors and directors. "Holy Child" received a cooler reception but "La Cienaga" fans will get their memories refreshed with the recurrent themes of incest and bed swapping. Lusting Dr Jano, who brushes up against choirgirl Amalia is really after her mother , but he's married. The encounter brings Amalia's religious upbringing into question. Its not surprising that Pedro Almodóvar produced the film, especially with his own 'Bad Education'.
