Kaunas International Film Festival invited its viewers to the premiere of the latest film of Deimantas Narkevičius “Restricted Sensation” with the director present for Q&A. This film was presented to Kaunas and Vilnius audience.

Film takes place in 1970, in soviet Lithuania, when individual person’s freedom was regulated and contributed to collective interests. Quantitative advantage always ensured majority’s justice. Especially individual artists felt insecure. Their existence’s commonness was like a compromise; endeavor not to be caught and to please ridiculous system’s requirements. Film’s motto can be seen as an absurdity, despite the realistic, that time corresponding shooting style. As well known expression of soviet time, describing that time’s legal nihilism, said: “Give us a person and we will find a statute to jail him”.

“Crime of sexual basis ended up in the lowest level of macabre system. At the same time, it was the most effective way to discredit someone, diminish misfit’s authority. The 122 statute of soviet criminal code was very suitable, it punished for homosexual relations between men. However, women were let be” – said of Deimantas Narkevičius, director of “Restricted Sensation”.

Suspecting that the main character is gay he is fired and taken to militia. KGB servant, whose duty is to prepare a lawsuit, starts to have a liking for the suspended.

According to D. Narkevičius, viewers shouldn’t try to find historic justice. It’s more a creation – metaphor, which brings viewers to near past, when strong individual features or character of a person weren’t considered as components, enriching a society. They endangered it and wobbled political system’s stability.

A film will be presented in the Kaunas International Film Festival programme “Identity”. Cast: Valentinas Krulikovskis, Aleksas Kazanavičius, Mikalojus Urbonas, Vytautas Kaniušonis, Eglė Driukaitė, Arūnas Smailys, Marius Repšys and etc. Operator is Audrius Kemežys, sound operator – Sigitas Motoras. A band “Without Letters” made some soundtrack’s songs.

According to Ilona Jurkonytė, director of Kaunas International Film Festival, festival’s organizers coherently follow the creation of Deimantas Narkevičius, one of the most famous and popular nowadays artist, and take pleasure in presenting it to cinema’s fans. “Last year we showed a retrospective of Deimantas Narkevičius and this year we invite to set your eyes on his latest work which reveals stigmatic particular individuals and groups in a society”- said Kaunas Film Festival director Ilona Jurkonytė.
