The KinofilmManchester European Short Film Festival 2010 is pleased to announcea selection of highlights from a line-up that offers an ambitious, accessibleand wide ranging week of new film and filmmaking events in Manchester, 27 April– 2 May.

As ever, short films are themain focus of the festival, which showcases a kaleidoscope of new talent. Oversix days Kinofilm 2010 will screen 200 shorts over 30 programmes, selected fromover 1000 submissions from across Europe.

Not to be missed is thehilarious Oscar© nominee:Granny O’Grimm’s Sleeping Beautywith Kathleen O’Rourke, screening in Animation. Atthe oppose end of the genre scale, Kino Extremeexplores edgy, challenging new work including Tom Geens’ award winner You’rethe Stranger Here. Elsewhere, the Love Storiesprogramme explores romance in all its forms, including a wistful breakup for the iPod generation in Modern Life is Rubbish, withrising stars Rafe Spall and Rebecca Night. Alongside the impressiveshorts programmes, there are six debut features to look forward to in the“Transitions” strand, from directors who cut their teeth in short film. DavidWhitney’s acclaimed Kandahar Break is adefinite stand out, the topical, tense drama following a mine clearer in late1990s Southern Afghanistan. Another rare opportunity to gain insightinto the business will be offered by BAFTA winning visual effects company Redvision (Touchingthe Void; Ocean’s Thirteen; The Day AfterTomorrow).
