Tokyo Film Festival Winners Announced

By Liza Foreman TOKYO –

Winnerss of the 24th edition of the Tokyo International Film Festival were announced on Sunday.

President of the International Competition Jury, Edward R.Pressman said:

Especially this year, it has been difficult to keep films alive in Japan but I would like to thank festival chairman, Mr. Yoda, and all the people for making TIFF possible. The prevalent theme in some of the best films such as Play, When Pigs Have Wings, and Untouchable was immigration and the consequences of being different and coming from different cultures and class which seem to divide us.
Untouchable is a story about two men who have very different personalities creating a bond and harmony. It is a film with great skill and artistry”.

Directors Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache who won the Tokyo Sakura Grand Prix Award for their film, Untouchable said via video: “Great new received! WOW! We are extremely honored to receive this prize. This film will be released in two days in France so we are promoting our film in Paris. We promise to come to Tokyo in the next months to come. This is a commitment more than a promise. And I promise I am not reading off a draft (laugh)! We are so happy! Thank you, thank you, thank you Tokyo!”
