in 1981, the Breckenridge Festival of Film is one of the oldest film

Early this morning FMX 2010, the
15th Conference on Animation, Effects, Games and Interactive Media
ended with a booming party. The biggest expert meeting in Europe maxed
out capacities for the venue of Haus der Wirtschaft. On each of the
four days way over 3.000 international animation specialists, visitors
and young talents from 41 countries rarely found free seats in one of
the simultaneous programs in the other ten rooms and had to sit on

Marco Bellocchio is to give the Cinema Masterclass at the
coming 63rd Festival de Cannes. Upon accepting the invitation, he
declared: “I think that the most precious thing a director can teach
anyone wanting to work in the business is how to work with actors and
actresses. Anyone can teach technique, but the ability to get another
person to interpret a character you have imagined is a gift, although
it can be learned in part by a director who isn’t afraid of risking
failure. You can never ...
I had to do a double-take when I saw the headline
yesterday: GEN ART TO CLOSE ITS DOORS AFTER SIXTEEN YEARS. The Gen Art
organization, which organizes networking and exhibition events for
film, music and fashion in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago and
several other cities, is closing its doors? After what was an
amazingly successful New York festival just two weeks ago? Well, the
news apparently is true and joins a wave of bad news for specialized
events around the USA (and p...

FILM NEWS FROM THE

Here is the text of his letter: “Over the
last three weeks, there has been acrimonious debate concerning the
screening of my film Hors La Loi, although the people taking part in
this debate have not seen the film... Faced with such passion, and so
as to restore some degree of calm in this over-heated context, it
seems to me important to stress two points. - Hors la loi is a work of
fiction, a saga that tells the story of three Algerian brothers and
their mother over a period of more than t...

It is a powerful mathematical equation:
Politics + Hollywood = Poliwood. In his latest film, Oscar winning
director and Connecticut resident Barry Levinson (RAIN MAN) surveys
the close dance between the celebrity culture of the film capital and
the political halls of power in Washington. The film is the Closing

announcement of the Festival's awards in ...
Films which feature veteran actors are
having a particularly diffilcult time breaking through in the highly
youth-oriented film market. Let's face it, teenagers and young adults
are the ones who go to the movies in greatest numbers and....they buy
popcorn, nachos and candy which contributes mightily to the film
theaters' bottom line. This is a shame because films peopled by
seniors have a special heart and wisdom and also serve as a showcase
for actors who have had a lifetime to per...

A cutting edge account of Mugabe's
Zimbabwe: Political persecution in the guise of democracy "It was
cruel. Extremely cruel". One year on from the land evictions that
left over 700,000 locals homeless, there is no news from Harare. The

infiltrated and divided. But the political persecution of the Zimbabwean
people continues and an opposition party leader matter-of-factly

It belongs to our common sense perception
that distribution and production technologies develop more rapidly
than the content they cover and that great competence in technologies
is not equivalent to the mastery of creative content. Knowing grammar
and vocabulary or different types of filters and lenses is a necessary
but not a sufficient condition for creative output. Over the last few
years in virtually all related film festival seminars there have been
discussions about the new distribution p...
