Sorkin Presents NEWSROOM at Los Angeles Film Festival

user
Halfway through the first scene (he writes long scenes) of Sorkin's NEWSROOM I thought, "This show could change the world." I am a Sorkin fan, and an idealist, but that's besides the point. In the same way that THE WEST WING made Americans feel apart of what was happening in Washington, NEWSROOM does too. It takes place in a newsroom in Washington, and not only that but it's set during the real events of the day beginning on April 20, 2010. I feel like this kind of pseudo-inside look...

Legend of the Crystal Skulls (Also: Crystal Skull Legend)

user
Director: Tilman Remme.
Legend of the Crystal Skulls investigates the 140 year old mystery of four infamous skulls that were carved out of rock crystal and that are kept at museums in Paris, London, Washington and in a private collection. Believed to have been one of the greatest archaeological discoveries ever made, the skulls have a spawned a world wide movement of skull devotees. The film investigates the true origin of the crystal skulls. With the help of modern science and meticulous documentary research, the film discovers that the crystal skulls were made in the 19th and 20th centuries, not in ancient Central America, and that they are thus part of one of the most elaborate archaeological hoaxes in history.

user
Hi Vicky! ÉCU here. We’ve never met, but your film ‘Stanley Pickle’ won the prize for ‘Best Student Film’ and we all absolutely loved it. How did you find out about ÉCU in the first place? I found out about ÉCU by searching for festivals in Paris- from the website it looked really active, and that's what drew me to it. Then I read more about it to discover it clearly had a great reputation so naturally I sent in Stanley Pickle. What’s happened to Stanley since April ...

Chicago 48 Hour Film Project

The 48 Hour Film Project is a wild and sleepless weekend in which you and a team make a movie—write, shoot, edit and score it—in just 48 hours.

On Friday night you get a character, a prop, a line of dialogue and a genre, all to include in your movie. 48 hours later, the movie must be complete. Then it will show at a local theater, usually in the next week.

In 2010 nearly 40,000 filmmakers made 3,000 films in in 80 cities on five continents.  This year marks the 10th anniversary of the 48 Hour Film Project, marking an exciting year for us and with close to 100 participating cities, it's our biggest year yet!  As you may or may not know, the top films every year go to the Cannes Film Festival to be featured as part of the Short Film Corner.  Sadly, Chicago has never sent a representative to this international stage.  This year, we'd like to change that - so bring your game face to Chicago's 2011 Film Weekend (July 29th - 31st).

Sander Francken on BARDSONGS at CPHPIX 2011

user
Since BARDSONGS (2010) screened in Palm Springs this past PSIFF 2011, I’ve been speaking to director Sander Francken about doing an interview about what I thought was an extremely intriguing subject for a film, that of oral storytelling in a time where storytelling has changed so much that the old modes have long since departed us. Or have they? Sander’s film is a tribute to oral storytelling and ‘bardsongs’. I tracked him down in Copenhagen at CPHPIX 2011 where his film screened and we ...
