Rain Digital Theater Network PresentationFounded in 2002, Rain Network is a Brazilian company that has created a solution for independent cinema market by interconnecting theaters in a digital network. With offices in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, New York and London, the company currently transmits, by satellite, films in digital format to more than 120 screens. In December 2005, Rain Network has joined forces with Emerging Pictures (www.emergingpictures.com), to form Rain US, a collaborative venture for digital distribution and exhibition in the United States. In January 2006 a new agreement was made with Buena Onda (www.buenaondafilms.com) to create Rain United Kingdom. This way Rain Network has become a holding that integrates local operations, in Brazil the company responds as Rain Brazil now. Briefly other countries will be connected to Rain Network. Cinema Independence Until today, independent films have faced a difficult equation to assure their position in the film market, having to take great risks to bring their message to the audience, and not always reaching the expected number of screens. Rain developed an economical and technological solution to revolutionize access to worldwide independent cinema. Distributors work under the high pressure of not earning the return on their investments in films release. Producers, after facing the battle of making their films, may find themselves restricted to a small audience due to distribution challenges. Small and medium exhibitors, on the other hand, face difficulties to schedule premieres, and have to face the challenge of lack of content and empty theaters. Access is the word that motivates Rain's work. We work to democratize distribution, and foster the growth of the international film industry. The goal of Rain is to achieve a balanced association between business model, investment, and technology to create a distribution network capable to restructure and build a new scenario for the independent film industry. Digital cinema is a great solution for the distribution problem, since it allows better booking with a low upfront investment, thus lessening the risk of distributors, and allowing exhibitor to be part of the first run. 01.07.2006 | rain's blog Cat. : Brazil Buena Onda CDATA D-Cinema Digital cinema digital distribution Digital media Emerging Pictures Film Film distributor Independent film London Movie theater New York Rain Rio de Janeiro Sao Paulo theaters United Kingdom United States Video Visual arts
