Who's got the buzzzz & "Where's the elephant party?!"Ron Gilbert and I raced from the screening of "Farewell" last night, looking for the drinks. "Let's go the Elephant party!!" he was saying, and who can resist a line like that. "The elephants are all the way down the end there", he said, scanning LA live cinemas 1, 2, 3, 4 and... nothing. "Where are the elephants?" he asked the first person to step into the elevator, "and did you see the zeppelin film?". We'd been hoping to see the premiere of One Lucky Elephant too. But it was full. Opening night film "The Kids Are All Right" - sold out. Cyrus - sold out. The Tillman Story - sold out. Who do you have to kill to get a ticket round here? Just joking. But yes, Ron Gilbert and I are up to trouble. 2 reviewers at the same film - those filmmakers had better watch out! Ron liked the The Tillman Story, but not being a fellow American it didn't really work as well for me. I liked the love affair side story in Farewell, about the first air voyage round the world by Lady Hay, but not being a fellow woman, that bit didn't really work as well for him. The filmmaker and press cocktail party - that worked for both of us! Looking forward to tonight's screenings, because I see on the program not just 1 but 2 films I've been wanting to see, that are getting a lot of BUZZZZZZ.... 'The Two Escobars', about the deaths of drug lord Pablo Escobar and soccer star Andres Escobar (and just like the Duplass duo who directed Cyrus, I notice here also the directors are 2 brothers - Jeff Zimbalist & Michael Zimbalist. Do I need to drag my brother out to get a directing gig too? I´m sure that some sibling rivalry would make a "making of" doc on double directors even more interesting!) 'Where Are You Taking Me?' by Kimi Taketsu, promises "breathtaking cinematic epiphanies" in its portrayal of Uganda, which I'm hoping might hark back to the beautiful observational style of one of my favourite films of all time, Sunless by Chris Marker. ..and I'm also intrigued to see 'Life with Murder', though I've heard its intense, (and unfortunately on at the same time as The Two Escobars) so after those 2 dark docs about death, I might find myself racing back afterwards to the Live.Create.Lounge for a strong drink! See you there!
