Films Division to set up Museum of Cinema
A Museum dedicated to Cinema is likely to be inaugurated in 2013, the centenary year of Indian cinema. To be built by the government run Films Division, at an estimated cost of Rs.110 crores, the museum will cover varied aspects of cinema - films, costumes, scripts, set designs, film literature and publications.
Films Division has produced more than 8000 films in the last 60 years, and about 5000 films will be available for on-line purchase and download. Very recently, it signed an MOU with NFDC to market its documentaries. Under the MOU, NFDC has been given Film & Television rights to market FD films globally on a revenue sharing basis.
FD is also considering the waiver of one percent rental being charged at present from the cinema owners to screen its films. FD participated in the 41st IFFI with Dancing Feet,a four day screening of 22 documentaries on Indian Classical dances.
Conceived as a sequel to the package on music, Moments with the Maestros at the 40th IFFI, Dancing Feet showcased classical dances like Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi, Odissi, Kathakali, Kathak, Mohiniattam and Manipuri. The fest also included biopics of dancing icons Sitara Devi, Pt Birju Maharaj, Yamini Karishnamurthy, Sonal Mansingh, Dr. Padma Subramaniam, Raja & Radha Reddy, Uma Sharma and Mallika Sarabhai among others. Thaa thaee.
