CVJETNI TRG - Place des fleurs / Flower Square in the Montreal world competition

I saw this film in competition and was amazed by the strength of this script in this powerful thriller movie by thisCroatian film legend, he was a leading director of Croatia's new cinema of the late 1960s, still very much active.
I love th epitch an actor is hired to play a priest who will hear the supposedly last confession of a catholic monster mafia mobster.

CVJETNI TRG (PLACE DES FLEURS / FLOWER SQUARE)
What happens to ordinary people in extraordinary situations? In this case the question applies to an average bourgeois family which finds itself falling into the clutches of the mafia and the underworld. And their efforts to extricate themselves. A portrait of contemporary Croatia that goes behind the newspaper headlines... a worrying picture of a community in which bad things can happen to good people while society looks on indifferently. "I had four hours of material for a documentary on this subject, but I was not satisfied. I showed the material to (scriptwriter) Mate Matišić who found a way to combine it with his play, Balloon. I had a great team and great collaborators, not to mention a dream cast. If the film succeeds, it will be because of them." -- Krsto Papić
Krsto Papić
Born in 1933, Krsto Papić graduated from the University of Zagreb and made his directorial debut in 1965 with Waiting, a sketch in the omnibus film THE KEY. One of Croatia's most prominent filmmakers, equally at home as a director of documentaries and fiction, Papić is known for his uncompromising treatment of issues affecting Croatian society. Among his features are: ILLUSION (1967), HANDCUFFS (1970), THE RAT SAVIOUR (1976), THE SECRET OF NIKOLA TESLA (1980), MY UNCLE'S LEGACY (1988, FIPRESCI prize at the Montreal World Film Festival), A STORY FROM CROATIA (1992), WHEN THE DEAD START SINGING (1998) and INFECTION (2003), both shown at the MWFF. Papić was honoured by the Festival in 2004 with a special retrospective.
