Now that we are just a little over a three months away from opening night everything is heating up. Our contract is signed for the opening night, March 1, 2012 at the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria Queens. This state of the art facility is going to make all of the films look BEAUTIFUL. I am so happy for the filmmakers who will get the chance to see their films there. We are happy to be able to do do this. It will be an incredible evening.

On this planet, there are voices that are silenced. Films that are banned. Filmmakers who are ucensored...or worse. We want to hear about them and we want to see their work.
For the rest of you, if your work is challenging, we want to see it.

We open the mailers, we log, we verify, we create the file and place it in by category, alphabetically and by length. We screen, we rate, we argue, we re-screen, we rate, we average and we log it on the master log.
We email, we facebook, we twitter...tweet...twit?...sometimes we even (gasp) pick up the actual p...
Where did the Queens World Film Festival come from?
For many years, we were volunteers with another festival, running their Youth Initiative providing filmmaking bootcamps to three local schools. The program was very successful with a growing reputation for excelence.
Last year, in it's 7th year the festival had grown and more than 400 films entered. We were working very hard on the Youth Initiative when disaster hit. Two days prior to the festival's opening we found out that t...
When we wake up we check withoutabox, facebook, twitter, myspace and every other portal we have signed up for and see the words from around the world. Filmmakers from villages, cities, universities, hamlets all reaching out with the desire to tell their stories. It is an honor to give them a platform. Around the world, around the keyboard...we have community.

Starting a festival is like juggling....a chainsaw, a kitten and a 25lb weight. It takes more than dexterity. I takes more than agility. It takes endurance and determination and unbelievable focus. The goal: everyone must have a great experience at the Queens World Film Festival. Period. Keep an eye on us. Keep telling stories....and making them move.
