Torino Film Festival

The festival aims to provide a place for independent film people to meet and assess their works- films reflecting aspects of the behavior of youth culture.

From 1989 on, when Rondolino became director of the festival, it has been led by Alberto Barbera (from AIACE), Steve Della Casa, Roberto Turigliatto and Giulia D’Agnolo (from the film club Movie Club founded by Baldo Vallero, who will be on the festival board for a long time). From 2006 on, the festival has been guided by important directors such as Nanni Moretti, Gianni Amelio, Paolo Virzi, and two film critics, Emanuela Martini and Stefano Francia di Celle. For its 40th edition, Steve Della Casa returns to lead the festival.

The festival has dedicated great attention to retrospectives (particularly successful are the French New Wave, the New German Cinema, John Carpenter, George Romero, Manoel De Oliveira, Paolo Gobetti, Aleksandr Sokurov, William Friedkin, Roman Polanski, Wim Wenders, Philippe Garrel, Paulo Rocha, Mohsen Makhmalbaf). Many nowadays famous directors’ first works were also made known thanks to the festival (Jane Campion, Pablo Larrain, Paolo Sorrentino, Pietro Marcello, Gabriele Muccino, Matteo Garrone, Jafar Panahi, Bryan Singer).

VIDEO Closing of the TFF- The day of Oliver Stone In Turin

Today is December 2, the closing of the Torino International Film festival and definetaly the day of Oliver Stone. Just before the press conferance started in the middle of preparations lets say festival director Steve della Casa took his precious time and gave me an interview. We spoke about Jean-Luc Godard, Kyle Eastwood, John Wayne and of course Oliver Stone!

Today is also last but not least the day of Oliver Stone, definitely! Photographers and journalists were queuing up at the Cavalleridza 1-2 hours before the famous American director arrived, and while it was sunny it was also cold outside. I was in the lucky position to have an interview set up with the festival director prior the press conference, and was saved from enduring the cold.

I have assisted at one of his masterclasses before while attending the GFF in El Gouna in 2018 I guess or 2017, while he was touring the festivals with his documentary The Putin Interviews. This was a four-part, four-hour television series by him, first broadcast in 2017. The series was created from several interviews of Russian president Vladimir Putin conducted by Stone between 2015 and 2017. And it was mentioned during the masterclass. Watch the video in order to find out what Oliver Stone responded.
