A few of this year’s  films include ::

  • The students at the Ali Forney Center in Harlem, under TFI’s leadership created a short film -  Does It Matter?  - which follows a young transgender woman and the biases she receives while applying for a corporate job.

  • Created by East Harlem Tutorial Program  - 5 floors is a ghost story allegory of the quickly changing East Harlem neighborhood.  In this uniquely Harlem story, the film’s protagonist interviews a janitor for a school project, only to find that the school where he works is about to be knocked down and replaced by high-rise luxury apartments. Before long, the student recognizes the costs associated with the building’s demolition, and more broadly, with gentrification in her Harlem neighborhood.
  • From the students at The Young Women’s Leadership School of AstoriaInside My Skin is a documentary about a young girl’s journey to health and a positive body image.

·         A documentary from the students at The Manhattan International High School/Digital ReadyConversations on Education is a short narrative, entirely filmed using smartphones. The film interview teachers, students and others about their high school experiences, focusing on how to make school more enjoyable by highlighting was works and what doesn’t.
