HOLLYWOOD SETS ITS SIGHT ON THE THIRD WORLD

                The interest of Hollywood towards third world countries is this: culture teeming with untold stories and cheaper venues and labor.

                You’ve heard of films shot in Canada and less expensive states like Michigan, but with the US economy on a tailspin what does it mean for filmmakers here?

                Many Hollywood executives have looked overseas to keep the profits rolling in and the cash inside their own pockets from flying out. Filming was done in Bangkok for the raucous comedy, Hangover 2.  Some even formed partnerships like Abu Dhabi owned Imagenation and Summit, the team behind, “Twilight”. And celebrities found potential on their issues as storylines to their projects like Angelina Jolie’s directorial debut on a movie about the Bosnian war entitled, “In the Land of Milk and Honey”.

                Some may see this as Hollywood losing its power, but this is not the case. With the ever evolving technology and ever expanding ways we can communicate with other countries, the potential market overseas broadens not only our perspectives but theirs as well. An example is of Abu Dhabi where a family goes to the cinema three times a week.

                 Think of all the unique films we can come up with. Think of the artistry that would envelope our projects. There are endless possibilities and we should embrace it.
