Capital City Black Film Festival 2020 Goes Virtual

Festival
Festival presentation:

The Capital City Black Film Festival (CCBFF) will return with its eighth annual film festival Dec. 4-6! This virtual event will deliver a best-in-class experience with thought-provoking programming, virtual networking opportunities, and films and music videos presented by talented filmmakers from across the globe.

Submissions are now open and CCBFF is inviting talented filmmakers to be the first to apply via Film Freeway.  If you’re a CCBFF alum and or a student currently enrolled in a college or university, please contact us directly at info@capcitybff.com to receive 50% discount on submission fees. Deadline to submit is Sept. 30!

Access to this year’s festival will be on capcitybff.com.

America has been forced into an awakening due to its history of racial injustice. This year, CCBFF’s  theme “Breakthrough: Unleash Your Power” will explore the impact racism plays on the mental health of Black people, specifically Black creatives. Through an in-depth examination of the state of Black mental health, CCBFF seeks to amplify stories that explore the intersection of mental health and racism  and offer a pathway towards healing for African diaspora.

“Our country is at a critical juncture which provides an opportunity for us to reexamine our past and dismantle the very things that have kept Black people in bondage for centuries. Black filmmakers have been essential in telling the stories of our trauma and exposing these ills, but they, too, have been affected,” said CCBFF Executive Director Winston G. Williams.

“For years, we have identified what our community of creatives need to thrive in this industry. For our eighth annual festival, we’re using our platform to help filmmakers break the chains of racism and oppression while unlocking their power to create and impact change in the world.”

Filmmakers come from across the globe to showcase their work and learn from the brightest minds in the industry. Over the years, submissions have come from a range of countries including South Africa, United Kingdom, France, Australia, Brazil, Japan and Canada.

Capital City Black Film Festival is made possible thanks to our sponsors including Austin Convention Center and the City of Austin’s Cultural Arts Division Office.
