Cinema City Film Festival
The Cinema City festival, which will be held from June 21-28 in Novi Sad, has officially opened its call for entries for “Up to 10,000 bucks” selection. Every year this authentic programme screens the films shot with a budget of less than $ 10,000, thus promoting the creation of low-budget auteur film. This is a competition selection and it draws films from all across the globe. In order to qualify for the call, the films cannot be shot before 2012, and their budget cannot exceed $ 10,000. There are no restrictions as to the length, type and genre of the film. The call will be open until April 19, and anyone wishing to apply can do so by filling out the form at www.cinemacity.org/upto10000/.
Traditionally, the selector for this programme is the director of last year’s winner of the Grand Prix for best domestic film. This year the selector will be Srdan Golubovic, who directed last year’s winning film Circles.
This selection is one of the most attractive selections of the Cinema City festival. Each year it discovers new talents and gives them a chance to affirm themselves in film industry. The popularity of this selection is best presented by the ever-growing number of applicants from all over the world.
“The decision to gather and motivate a crew and shoot a low-budget film is something we all need to support and award. It requires courage, and most of all, creativity if one wants to make a good film, perhaps even more so than what is needed for the big-budget film. The best proof of these films’ quality is the ever-growing number of visitors who return to these films every year” – says Dina Vukovic, programme coordinator.
Last year the Ibis award for best film was won by the young director Dean Radovanovic for “Either Words Nor Quiet”, which secured him a place among the jurors in 2014.
