In September, horror invades the city of Lisbon. MOTELX - Lisbon International Horror Film Festival has hosted the best international films and world premiered emerging Portuguese genre cinema since 2007. Guests of honour such as George A. Romero, Dario Argento, Hideo Nakata, Coffin Joe, Eli Roth , Alejandro Jodorowsky, Roger Corman, and Ari Aster have already joined the nearly 20,000 people who annually pass by the iconic Cinema São Jorge. The Festival's programming is grouped into several sections, which include feature and short films, retrospectives, children's cinema, microSHORTS and documentaries. In addition to cinema, MOTELX promotes a series of activities before and during the Festival that include parties, workshops, masterclasses, performances, concerts, exhibitions, the mythical MOTELquiz and much more. Member of the Méliès International Festivals Federation (MIFF) and Europe For Festivals, Festivals for Europe (EFFE). MOTELX, where horror is welcome.

MÉLIÈS D'ARGENT AWARD - BEST EUROPEAN FEATURE FILM 

ROOM SERVICE - Recent horror films from around the world;

DOC HORROR - Documentaries about horror films or related themes;

LOST ROOM - A journey into the history of Portuguese genre film;

MOTELX AWARD - BEST PORTUGUESE HORROR SHORT FILM 

SECTIONX - Special programme of experimental films from any country and any production year;

INTERNATIONAL SHORTS - Short films not produced in Portugal;

BIG BAD WOLF - Special programme for younger audiences.

 

The festival encourages and will consider other cinematic proposals outside the scope of these sections, for eventual retrospectives or special screenings.

MOTELX - Lisbon International Horror Film Festival promotes the best of horror from around the globe and encourages the production of Portuguese horror films. One of the cultural highlights of the year in Lisbon, the festival has also carved out a prominent position in the international circuit of genre film festivals since its inception in 2007. In 2016, MOTELX reached an audience of about 20.000 people across the 6 days of the festival and the 2 Warm-Up days that kick off every edition with open air screenings, concerts and parties. Past guests include names such as George A. Romero, Stuart Gordon, John Landis, Coffin Joe, Eli Roth, Brian Yuzna, Dario Argento, Hideo Nakata and Tobe Hooper, among others. MOTELX is the only Portuguese festival to have received an accreditation by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF), and is also a member of the European Fantastic Film Festivals Federation (EFFFF) and Europe For Festivals, Festivals For Europe (EFFE). For further information, please visit www.motelx.org

MOTELX – Lisbon International Horror Film Festival is a non competitive festival which aims to introduce to Portugal the very best of horror films from all over the world, in all its diversity: from big budget films to independent productions, from classic to experimental, from cult films to new genres. The main objectives of the event are:

> To put Lisbon on the map of the circuit of international festival dedicated to horror;
> To promote the visit of international guests to introduce their works, to present master classes and/or workshops, with the intent of increasing the interaction between the audiences and the creators;
> To stimulate the national production of genre films, presenting not only their creative ans aesthetical richness, but also their viability, economical and production-wise.

The Festival is organized by CTLX – Lisbon Horror Film Club, a non-profit cultural organisation, in partnership with several public and private entities, as Lisbon's City Hall, EGEAC, Lisbon's Tourism Association, Cinemateca Portuguesa – Film Museum, Multipessoal, amongst others.

It takes place at Cinema São Jorge and Teatro Tivoli BBVA, at the heart of Lisbon.
