Daimon Production is an independent production company founded in 2009 by the freelance video reporter Emiliano Pappacena. Daimon Production has swiftly become a real teamwork of young professionals who pool their know-how in the audiovisual industry. Our mission is to produce TV reports, documentaries and new TV formats paying particular attention to social issues, immigration, environmental sustainability and technological innovation. Our video reports have been aired on Rai Due, Rai Tre, Rai Storia and on the satellite television Rai Edu. Why Daimon? The Daimon can be regarded as a spirit or an entity - superior to man but inferior to divinities - or even as a jinn or a demon. According to the Greek philosopher Socrates, the Daimon was that entity that drove him to discuss, confront and search for moral truth. Each and every one of us has their own Daimon. Ours is curiosity, the thirst for truth that compels us to dissect and then reassemble the complex reality in which we all live through our video productions.

About the Director:
Emiliano Pappacena was born in Latina (Lazio region) in 1979. He graduated in sociology and in 1999 he started out in the publishing business as founder and editor of the on-line magazine Dissonanze.net. In 2007 Rai Due broadcast his first TV report on the economic potential of immigration: "Economia Migrante" (Migrant Economy). In 2009 he founded Daimon Production, which has enabled him to independently produce and direct his own works. To date, he has produced and directed several TV reports on social and integration-related issues for the programmes "Un Mondo a Colori" and, subsequently, "Crash", both aired on Rai Educational.
Anna Maria Selini is a professional journalist, freelancer and video reporter. She has contributed, inter alia, to Rai News, Current TV, Repubblica.it, PeaceReporter, L'Unità, etc. In 2006 she was awarded the Ischia Prize as she had come first at the State examination (Esame di Stato). After two specialization courses for correspondents from crisis areas, she went to Kosovo, Lebanon, and made reports from Israel, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip. One of them, "Gaza guerra all'informazione" (Gaza, War against Information), was among the finalists for the 2010 Ilaria Alpi Award.

Film synopsis:
In ports all over the world, alongside cargo and tourist ships, there are also vessels that have not been operated for months, if not for years. These abandoned ships are left moored to rust by their shipowners, often never to be recovered, because of financial distress, security issues or seizure. The problem is that in most cases the whole crew is still on board. These seafarers, who were recruited months before with a valid employment contract, suddenly find themselves thousands of kilometres from home, without food, water and, ever worse, pay cheque. This TV report was made by Emiliano Pappacena and Anna Maria Selini in collaboration with Antonio Demma.
