Jaxon Film Fest Announces Its 2013 Call for Entries

Although it has only been three short months since the 2012 Jaxon Film Fest (south-central Michigan’s newest premiere film and music festival), the folks behind the festival are gearing up for a big 2013 season. To prepare for this they have announced their call for entries for the 2013 season.

The 2012 Jaxon Film Fest was a festival of firsts. It was the first for the historic Michigan Theatre, Jackson, Michigan; it was a first for the 100 year old Carnegie Branch Library (where the festival hosted several world-class documentaries); it was a first for the people of Jackson, Michigan; and it was a first in that it premiered a number of quality films. This included: No Horizon Anymore (Keith Reimink), Weekend Warriors II (Lisa Bridenstine), The Brotherhood: Chicago (Wing Ko), Shinobi Blues (Mike Liu), Things My Father Never Taught Me (Burleigh Smith), Chhalava-Deception (Yogesh Sharma), Living Deadhead (James Korloch), War of Art (Todd Babcock), and Wolf Call (Bob Underhill). In total there were 30 short films and two feature films, and four documentaries screened at the first Jaxon Film Fest.

Now the Jaxon Film Fest has announced its call for 2013 season. It is looking for documentaries, animated shorts, narrated shorts, features, and historical films, as well. It is looking for films in the following genres: Action, Adventure, Branded Film, Comedy, Dark Comedy, Drama, Dramedy, Epic, Essay, Experimental, Exploitation, Fantasy, Film Noir, Music Video, Musical, Myth, Parody, Poem, Romance, Satire, Sci-Fi, Thriller, Western.

They would like films in any of these styles: 3D Animation, Animation, Anime, Claymation, Collage Animation, Flash Animation, Found Footage, Interactive, Live-Action, Machinima, Motion Comic, Motion Graphics, Multi-Media, Performance, Photography, Pixilation, Puppetry, Special FX, or Stop-Motion.

Says festival director, David W. King, “This past year’s festival (our first) was truly an exciting event for us. It was exciting that we received the number of quality films we did for our consideration. We were honored with the attendance of as many filmmakers present for the festival as we had.”

Many of the attending filmmakers had positive things to say about the Jaxon Film Fest.

Jaxon Film Festival was great. I didn’t expect to see so many well made films. Great stories, cinematography, music…very impressive line-up for the festival’s first year. Only problem…it felt weird sitting and watching movies for so long without a cat in my lap! Dave Kilgore

I was there and had a great time! Hope you guys can do it again next year. Terrance Cover

We had a fantastic time….thanks! Andrea Moon

It was truly an honor to be a part of the first year for the festival! Thanks for playing Waiter From Hell and UnSAFE Film Office’s The Girl With Blue Eyes! We can’t wait until next year! Michael McCallum

Chris-Teena Constas and I had a great time. Thank you for putting this together, and next year we will help any way we can. George Constas

About the 2013 Jaxon Film Fest

Says King “This coming year we are going to step it up a notch. Wishing to recognize the filmmakers for their contributions, we are going to award filmmakers for the best films in a number of different categories; not only as determined by our judges, but by our audience as well. We hope to be able to make this a two day affair and have special guests.”
