MANASQUAN, N.J. (July 15, 2013) – Kidz Filmz, a film
festival for the young and young a heart, has opened its call for entries for
the second-annual weekend festival which will be held from Feb. 8-10, 2013.
Filmmakers can submit entries created for children or by
children online at http://gsff.org/kidsfilmz.php
until Oct. 15, 2012. The selected films will be presented at Algonquin Arts
Theatre in a festival-style event that will include adjudication for any film
entered into competition categories such as: animation (short and feature
length), documentary (short and feature length), Narrative (short and feature
length) and music videos.
A joint venture by Algonquin Arts Theatre and the Garden
State Film Festival, Kidz Filmz is looking to capitalize on a successful launch
in 2012 that saw more than 1,000 patrons view approximately 40 films from
around the State of New Jersey and around the world. The program’s mission is
to provide educational enhancement as well as an outlet for creativity and enrichment
through the presentation of films that are the very finest in entertainment for
children as well as by children.
This event serves to use the cinematic arts as a means of sharing
information, broadening horizons, spotlighting creativity, and bringing
cultural understanding in a festive environment. In addition to film screenings
appropriate for children and families activities will also include a hands-on
children's film making workshop.
For more information on the event or how to enter, visit http://gsff.org/kidzfilmz.php
or contact Diane Raver at 732-528-9293 or diane@algonquinarts.org. The 2013
festival is also seeking program advertisers, sponsor and volunteers.
In 2012, New Jersey native Andy Milkis’ feature documentary ‘5,6,7,8’ won
the audience choice award as “Pick of the Flicks,” besting the other 37 films
competing in the first annual Kidz Filmz at Algonquin Arts Theatre.
“There’s something
kind of magical, really, about the film festival environment, having the
filmmakers here and all of the question and answer sessions that happen,”
Milkis told The Asbury Park Press. “It’s a great opportunity, especially for
kids, to get to see who makes the movies.”
