By Liza Foreman It seems that TIFFCOM, the market arm of the Tokyo International Film Festival (October 23-31, 2010), is not the highest-grossing film market in Asia for nothing.Drawing in all of the major players from the Asian industry and a handful of key European companies, this year’s market took place in a luxurious high-rise building, offering fabulous views of Tokyo, perfect organization and just the right mix of business and pleasure. With a bustling scene at the four-day event ...
A call for entries is underway for the first-ever Lewiston Auburn Film Festival (LAFF), which will be held on April 2, 2011, in both Lewiston and Auburn, Maine.
You can read a little more here, or go directly to www.lafilmfestival.org for the details.
Instead of sticking viewers in a traditional cineplex, LAFF is coveting various downtown eateries, galleries, hotels, etc. into theaters for one day only. These locations will host either an afternoon of movies or an afternoon of workshops. One ticket will get festival goers in to all of the movies and workshops.
The call for entries seeks movies that were created between Jan. 1, 2009 and Dec. 31, 2010 Categories for films are: feature-length, short, documentary and experimental. There are prizes in every category along with a few other major prizes that will be announced, including a short film contract with a local publishing company.
In order to attract a diversified menu of applicants, organizers have kept submission fees low, and in it’s inaugural year, have waived them entirely for international applicants.
We want your films!!! Visit www.lafilmfestival.org for the submission form.
Deadline submissions December 31,2010

Lewiston and Auburn, with a rich history and bright future, is the perfect backdrop for a film festival. As you walk from one town to the other, across the bridge and over the mighty Androscoggin River that cascades over the Great Falls, you’ll see both our past and our future: Our past in the worn red brick mills that line the river, and our future in the enterprising new businesses that now fill them. We are the second largest community in the state and continue to grow every year.
Instead of sticking you in a traditional cineplex, each location participating in LAFF is doubling as a theater for one day only. These locations will host either an afternoon of movies or an afternoon of workshops. One ticket will get you in to all of the movies and workshops.
Hey everyone....yeah, there's a million film fests out there, and we're starting one in central Maine that we'd love to get your submission for. A call for entries is underway for the first-ever Lewiston Auburn Film Festival (LAFF), which will be held on April 2, 2011, in both Lewiston and Auburn, Maine.

Inevitably, any major film festival that occurs in the Fall season has a role play in determining eventual Oscar nominees and even winners. It all starts off at the Venice and Toronto film festivals, where Oscar hopefuls get their debuts, and continues into the season, presumably climaxing with nominations that come at the first of the year. With the Academy’s recent expansion of the Best Picture category to include 10 films, it is very likely that several of the films present...

Not only was Friday night’s screening of Night Catches Us sold out, but attracted a cool, racial mix of peeps. This Centerpiece screening included a Q & A with writer/director Tanya Hamilton and lead Kerry Washington who looked really chic in her Costello burnt orange dress. Washington was drawn to the film not only because of it’s strong writing, but also the opportunity to humanize an important time period in our history,...

Despite the current successes of such UK exports as NEVER LET ME GO by Mark Romanek and NOWHERE MAN by Sam Taylor-Wood and the highly anticipated new entry in the mega-successful HARRY POTTER series opening next month, the British film industry is rather in the doldrums. The ending of key tax credits and the shuttering of the UK Film Council (accused of lavish lunches and other extravagances in a period of austerity) has given pessimism the upper hand in British film circles. Of...

BLOG BEGINS: I have never guest-written for a blog before, so one thing you should know about me right off the bat: I ramble.
