By Lindsay R. Bellinger
Cambodian Oscar-nominated filmmaker Rithy Panh presented his shocking documentary to the world at the Berlinale Palast with his filmmaking team by his side. His documentary Irradiés (Irradiated), which is a Cambodian/French co-production running in Competition at Berlinale, is not an easy watch and clearly it was too heavy and vivid for some of the audience members who left during the screening. For those of us who stayed, we were treated to...

One way of thinking about Cambodian director Rithy Panh is that he is his country's Claude Lanzmann. Panh's films explore the 1970s Khmer Rouge genocide, which he witnessed first-hand as a young teen before fleeing to Thailand and then his adoptive France.
His 12th and newest feature, The Missing Picture, took the Un Certain Regard prize at this year's Cannes Film Festival. It stars clay figurines reenacting Panh and his family’s ordeal, blended with previous...

Our 3rd feature, FREEDOM DEAL, is a drama withsupernatural and horror elements taking place in Cambodia during the 1970 civil war, as the US and North Vietnam slugged it out along the Cambodia-Vietnam border. It's a part of the Vietnam war and US and Cambodian history that's never before been explored in a compelling way in the fiction feature format.

Banned by the Cambodian authorities, the documentary “Who Killed Chea Vichea?” investigates the 2004 assassination of labor leader Chea Vichea.
As president of the Free Trade Union, Cambodia’s largest labor organization, Vichea was widely admired for his tireless fight to increase wages and improve working conditions for his members.
It was a dangerous job which often brought him into conflict with powerful people and institutions, but despite numerous beatings, ...
It is always a leap of faith to go into the heart of darkness, but the rewards can be great. This sentiment comes to mind with the release this Friday of one of the most harrowing and compelling personal documentaries of the year. ENEMIES OF THE PEOPLE exposes for the first time the truth about the Killing Fields and the Khmer Rouge who were behind Cambodia’s brutal genocide of its own population.
The film recounts historical facts through the personal ...

CAMBOFEST: Film and Video Festival of Cambodia is the first international, independent movie festival in Cambodia (and currently the only annual international movie event in Cambodia)
Now entering our 4th Edition, CAMBOFEST sets a standard for the region by screening all movies only with the permission of filmmakers/copyright holders. Our aim is to contribute to the return of a viable movie industry in Cambodia by showcasing movies by both international and local Cambodian filmmakers - and in the process, entertaining and 'edutaining' a whole new moviegoing audience.
Our most recent, 3rd edition took place in a vintage pre-Khmer Rouge cinema house which CamboFest staff discovered in Kampot, on Cambodia's South CamboFest brought that movie house, the Royal, back to life especially for the event - and truem pioneering movie magic was experienced by all festgoers and participating filmmakers.
See Stills and Video from our most recent edition at the Royal cinema, here on our Blog at:
