The San Francisco Film Society will present the second annual Cinema by the Bay, a celebration of the passion, innovation and diversity of Bay Area filmmaking, the intelligence and probing spirit of local directors and the incredible depth and breadth of America’s film and media frontier, November 5–8 at the Roxie Theater, Southern Exposure and the Lab. The four-day festival will feature new work produced in or about the San Francisco Bay Area and provide a compelling window into Bay Area film culture and practice at its best. CBTB includes features, shorts, narratives and documentaries from well-known and emerging local talent.

The 53rd San Francisco International Film Festival (April 22 - May 6) will close with Joan Rivers--A Piece of Work, Ricki Stern and Annie Sundberg's surprising look at the iconic performer, 7:00 pm, Thursday, May 6 at San Francisco's landmark movie palace the Castro Theatre. The 53rd San Francisco International Film Festival (April 22 - May 6) will award close to $100,000 in total prizes this year. The New Directors Prize of $15,000 is given to a narrative first feature that exhibits a unique artistic sensibility and deserves to be seen by as wide an audience as possible. An independent jury will select the New Directors Prize winner, to be announced at the Golden Gate Awards Wednesday, May 5.

Alice @ 97.3 radio in San Francisco announces Call for Entries for the seventh annual 3-Minute Independent Film Festival which will be held November 6, 2009 at the historic Bimbo's 365 Club in San Francisco. With over $10,000 in cash and prizes, extensive radio exposure and more, this season's juried competition offers filmmakers a unique opportunity to showcase their 'short' cinematic masterpiece and be honored in an evening that celebrates the art of short film. Over the last 5 years, more the 100 short films have been screened at Alice's 3-Minute Film Festival with over $70,000 in cash and prizes awarded. We are looking forward to receiving more innovative and creative works for our 2009 festival.

The only limit to creativity is the running time of your film. Your short film must be 2 - 5 minutes long. Last night I watched 'Everything Strange and New' - showing one last time tomorrow- Saturday, May 2nd at the Kabuki cinema for the San Francisco International Film Festival.
Two minutes in I wanted to skip back to the beginning because I was stopped in my tracks by the style of film making. I wanted to watch it over so as to catch every detail.
