Venice VR Review - "Bonfire" by Eric Darnell and "Passenger" Isobel Knowles and Van Sowerwine

Passenger - Photo Courtesy of Film Camp Aliens of a feather by Anna Reeves Two virtual realty experiences that are particularly well realised at Venice this year are "Bonfire" by Eric Darnell at Baobab Studios in the States and "Passenger" by Isobel Knowles and Van Sowerwine from Australia. They are polar opposites in that one utilises high-end animation with powerful A.I. and the other feels handmade from fingers and glue, yet both leave you with an overriding sense of&...

"Marshall from Detroit" - A Review of the VR experience at Sundance

Eminem is one of the greatest rappers to ever exist. Sway Calloway is the best hip-hop journalist and radio personality in the world. The two come together to have a patient conversation about some of Eminem's roots in Detroit, utilizing a medium that usually gets attributed to a modern aesthetic. However, with Eminem and Sway Calloway being such rich fixtures of hip-hop history, the aesthetic is grainy and has a vintage feel to it.    The 20 minute short is a VR experience that...

Who’s Your MUMMY: Tom Cruise & Russell Crowe Bring Mummy Back

by Quendrith Johnson, Los Angeles Correspondent Oh, admit it, the team of OG Box Office Ballers Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe in Universal’s new take on THE MUMMY slated for June 9 has definite possibilities, even if Russell Crowe is a wry scale-tipper these days, mostly divining water in indie films. Plus it’s an IMAX® hair-raiser. Tom Cruise, or TC to friends, is such a hot-button actor for his off-screen activities that it’s almost like a Kevin Bacon game of interconn...

FMX 2017 - International Conference on Animation, Effects, VR, Games and Transmedia

FMX is Europe’s most influential conference dedicated to Digital Visual Arts, Technologies, and Business. In 2017, FMX takes place under the slogan "Beyond the Screen", focusing on how we, as a society, experience content now and in the near future. FMX will explore the evolution from the 2D screen to 3D screen to IMAX and Domes. What's more, it will also focus on storytelling beyond the movie theater, including VR and AR, 360° projects, location-based entertainment, geo-localization, interactive and installative screenings and more. However, FMX will not only look at the technological aspects of this evolution. Instead, it will also take into account the broader, societal implications: This year's theme is a call for open-mindedness and awareness, encouraging each and every one of us to look beyond the screen and to think outside the box.

Every year, VFX specialists, Animation experts as well as Games and Transmedia talents come to FMX to present cutting edge achievements, state of the art tools and pipelines, fascinating real time technologies, spectacular immersive experiences, innovative business models and more. More recently they have been joined by VR, AR, and 360° creatives who have introduced a new dimension into movie making and, more general, into entertainment. Every single one of them defines the diverse scope of the Conference program. Their contributions are complemented by the Marketplace that allows visitors to get their hands on the latest innovations of industry-leading companies and start-ups.  Workshops, Masterclasses and Company Suites dig even deeper into the learnings of international companies. To round things off, top-notch studios and service providers scout talent at the Recruiting Hub and international schools present their best projects on the School Campus.

FMX is one of the world’s premier conferences to meet with the most influential players in the field. The overall organization and the intimate yet international size of the event offer professionals and students from the digital arts communities a great platform to mingle, network, and share insights about Art, Technologies and Business, at the highest level.

Join the club! FMX 2017 takes place May 2-5, 2017 in Stuttgart, Germany.
