The First Conference and Exhibition on 3D

Avance Rapide Communication, in partnership with avec Nicéphore Cité and UP3D (the French association of 3D image producers), is organising the first edition of Dimension 3 expo, the 3D image forum.

The event will take place in Chalon sur Saône (Burgundy, France) from June 5 to 7, 2007, at the Espace des Arts.

Hollywood studios and leaders on the electronic market for entertainment are turning to 3D in order to reach out to new audiences and new markets.
The first conference on 3D images, Dimension 3 expo, is devoted to the opportunities and technologies in the field of 3D, through three days of lectures, screenings and demonstrations.
As more and more content is digitally created or filmed, 3D images (also called stereoscopic) can now become a reality. Uncertain trials are now giving way to technical and financial opportunities. In the United States over the past year, 3D films such as Chicken Little or The Nightmare Before Christmas were screened in a network of about 200 theatres (500 by the end of 2007), and have boosted box-office results. In Europe, museums and theme parks have seen how this technology could help them attract visitors.
The passion for 3D is rapidly growing beyond the field of cinema, with 3D television screens today in their final stages of development.
3D brings a great change in how you communicate. In a world where images are ever more present and therefore ever less influential, 3D could make a big difference. According to a study conducted in the U.S. by Opinions Dynamics Corporation, 46 million American adults would go to the theatre more often, and pay 2 dollars more per ticket, for 3D films!

Why Dimension 3 expo?
Dimension 3 expo aims at providing the media and the audiovisual industry with information about displaying, broadcasting or enhancing 3D content. This event is a unique meeting spot for information, meetings and discussion around research and development for 3D technologies.
Dimension 3 expo wishes to promote French and European competences in the field of 3D.
The event is a showcase for existing technologies, but will also provide a base for sharing experiences. For three days, Dimension 3 expo will gather several communities around three exclusive events:
• Conference cycle
• Demonstration & Exhibition area
• Screening area

Who is Dimension 3 expo aimed towards?
Dimension 3 expo is for professionals in the fields of audiovisual production, cinema and entertainment who wish to use 3D images in their projects. The event is also a meeting point for people who use 3D images for visualisation in architecture, design or industry.
Potential actors include:
• Cinema Distribution
• Audiovisual Producers / Directors / Technicians
• Theme Parks
• Communication agencies and Event organisers
• Museography
• Architecture / Industry
• Electronics / IT / Entertainment

The Conference Cycle
The objective of the lectures at Dimension 3 expo is to inform professionals about the current state of stereoscopic production technologies, as well as the opportunities for cinema theatres and consumer electronics manufacturers.
The two-day conference cycle will be dedicated to the markets of cinema and entertainment (first day), then to the markets of visualisation and consumer electronics (second day).
Lectures will be accompanied by keynote addresses promoting a specific technology, manufacturer, service company or studio. The conference will deal with the following subjects:
• History and present knowledge about 3D
• Creating 3D content
• What opportunities for 3D cinema theatres?
• 3D for events and special formats
• Will the dream of 3D TV come true?

Exhibition & Screenings
The exhibition area will open one day before the conference begins, so that journalists and VIP guests can visit the premises and see exclusive demonstrations. People on the invite list will have the chance to view a preview screening of a 3D programme. During three days, 3D screenings will make contact easier between producers, directors and partners. The goal is to create a market for 3D programmes.

Why Chalon sur Saône?
Burgundy is the cradle of photography and cinema. Nicéphore Niepce and Étienne Jules arey set the founding stones of these two inventions, which have become our civilisation’s pedominant media.
NICÉPHORE CITÉ was created in Chalon-sur-Saône in October 2004 and is a partially public company whose goal is to create activities in the area in the audiovisual field. This is how the company now runs a network of experts of sound and images, in order to respond to demands coming from the region, the country or even Europe.

Organisation
Dimension 3 expo is organised by French company Avance Rapide Communication.

3D

I can't believe I missed this event! It was a once in a lifetime chance to see the boys from software nederland work live. I'm doing some computer science in college and my major will be 3D dynamics. I believe you can imagine how much I wanted to see the show.
