Fantasporto Day 2 Just for fun

Choke (Directors week)

Goooooood, that was dirty fun, Sundance folks loved it the audience here loved it a lot

Another story of the America of today. A former medical student, Victor, has found a way of paying for his Alzheimer afflicted mother's illness: he pretends to choke when dining in expensive reataurants. And there is always someone who feels responsible for his life and sends a cheque. Victor also goes to centers where he treats his addiction to sex while working in a thematic park.

This feature was a huge success in the latest Sundance Film Festival and is the first by Clark Gregg, also an actor with a long career on film and television  who participated in films such as "A.I.- Artificial Intelligence" and "We Were Soldiers".

Directed by Clark Greg
Clark was born  on the 2nd April 1962 in Boston, USA, and is mostly known as an actor . He won several awards for his role in "State and Main" by David Mamet. He acted in "A.I: Artificial Intelligence" and "Ironman" and also participated in TV series such as "CSI" or  "Sex and the City ". "Choke" is his first film as director and his second as screenwriter after "What Lies Beneath".

Virus Undead (in fantastic competition) ie: I cant comment

Be careful! The birds are attacking, but not the ones from Hitchcock. Freely inspired from the great master of suspense, "Virus Undead" is the B series at its best. The sky darkened by flock of birds is the first sign that foretells the approaching of death. Some birds begin to fall down dead, while others possessed by a murderous fury begin to attack unprepared people.
Robert and two friends are on the way to his grandfather's mansion, one of the victims of these attacks. At a gas station they meet Marlene, Robert's ex, and one more girl, and together they decide to celebrate in the abandoned mansion. The party is great until a moment when a man appears, eager to kill them. He's infected with a virus and is not the only one. Robert and his friends are surrounded by a legion of living dead, thirsty for blood, and a flock of birds on the roof also preparing to attack. As written at the site QuietEarth, after all who needs a script when you have zombies in the cast?

Directed by Wolf Wolff

Known primarily as a composer of music for television where he has made over a dozen works, Wolff directed his first movie in 2006, called "Ludgers Fall" where he was also the scriptwriter and editor. Previously he had written and directed "Con Game" which was released directly to video market. He is also the producer of his films.

Walled In (in fantastic competition) ie: I cant comment either

A young demolition woman engineer goes to a remote block of flats in order to study  the destruction of the building. But this is no ordinary building. Within its walls, a series of murders took place some years ago and one of the victims was the architect of the building himself. These were not straightforward killings. The fifteen victims died suffocated in concrete, walled in the thick walls.

This is the beginning of one of the most frightening films of this year. How can people deal with such a past and still live there? What motivations might have taken someone to wall all the members of a family?

An example of the vitality of horror cinema, in the great tradition of Edgar Allan Poe and Hammer Films. With the attractive Mischa Barton as the leading actress.

Directed by Gilles Paquet-Brenner

A writer and a director, the French born Gilles Paquet-Brenner won the Best Screenplay Award in 2001 for his first feature film "Les Jolies Choses" in the deauville festival, having as leading lady Marion Cotillard. His debut was in 1998 with the short  "13 minutes 13 dans la vie de Josh et Anna".Walled in"  is his first entry in the international film market.

The Unborn (in fantastic competition) ie: I cant comment either

Sometimes the soul of the dead is so full of evil and sin that he is denied entry to Heaven These souls are condemned to wander in fonteira between the world of the dead and the living, looking for a new body to inhabit.

David S. Goyer, the director of "Blade: Trinity" and co-scriptwriter of "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight", launches a scary look in the worlds of the dead-alive in "The Unborn." A supernatural thriller where a young woman is haunted by nightmares when a demonic spirit and the threat frightens all who love her.

In the main roles are Gary Oldman (Batmans of Christopher Nolan, "Dracula" and Coppola saga of Harry Potter) and young Odette Yustman (from "Cloverfield"). "The Unborn" is produced by Michael Bay ("The Island" and "Transformers").

Directed by David S. Goyer

It is the scriptwriter of films as significant as the amazing "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight", "The Crow 2," "Blade 2" and "Blade: Trinity". He made his debut as a director in 2002 with "Zigzag" followed by "Blade: Trinity". He Is preparing the argument of "X-Men Origins: Magneto" which he will also direct.

Bellini e o Demónio (in fantastic competition) still no comment

Made out of cinematographic passions and pulp fiction, this is a thriller that hooks the viewer to its narrative. Bellini has just become the owner of a bankrupt detective agency. He's in debt, without clients and has a tremendous capacity to get into trouble. One day a strange man hires him to find a mysterious book. In partnership with the journalist Gala, who happens to be his ex-girlfriend, they put the clues together and find themselves before a macabre puzzle. In the search for answers, Bellini begins to be influenced by a mysterious power. Obstinate in revealing the mystery he plunges into a maze of rituals and satanic sects, without realizing that death is getting closer. The only chance to survive is to find the book. Fábio Assunção, renowned actor of soap operas such as "Celebridade" and "Paraíso Tropical" among many others, embodies this Bellini that is so much like the greatest detectives of the North American cinema noir.

Directed by Marcelo Galvão

Marcelo Galvão, born in São Paulo, studied advertising in São Paulo and then moved to United States, where he studied cinema at the New York Film Academy. In 2005 he made his first film, "Quarta B", that was followed by  "Lado B: Como Fazer um Longa
