International Freethought Film Festival Update
From the Director Our call for submissions for the first season of the International Freethought Film Festival is closed; which means it’s time to put together the programming for the event. We are so impressed with quality and content of the films that were entered for consideration. The filmmakers, who submitted their films for consideration, understood that the IFFF is a platform for films that question—what may be to some—the unquestionable; and critically examine that which is commonly deemed exempt from inquiry. In our case, as a niche film festival focused on freethought ideals, it is to be expected that religion, superstitions and pseudoscience are going to be examined with a critical eye. This aspect of promoting reason, critical thinking and freedom of inquiry was not lost on them. The films that were selected for screening will prove to make an eclectic program, and each of them reflects some aspect our mission statement. What’s especially encouraging is that many of these independent filmmakers took the risk of creating films that go beyond just raising questions. They challenge that which purports to have definitive answers; and some expose absurdity without apology. While Hollywood produces films purely based on monetary projection, independent filmmakers are known to delve into their films with passion and a story to tell—whether or not the story is too deep or controversial for the masses. The film festival circuit is where they turn to in order to share their creativity, without control of content from the major motion picture industry. We thank them for sharing that passion and creativity with us. ~Andrea Event Sponsors
