Antonio Banderas, Honorary Goya 2015
Antonio Banderas, film actor, director, producer and even singer was announced today to be this year´s Goya Honorary Award. He will receive this honor during the Spanish Academy Awards Ceremony, known as The Goyas, on Feb 8 2015. The Goya Award, are Spain's main national annual film awards. Considered by many in Spain, and internationally, to be the Spanish equivalent of the Oscars or Baftas or César. Members of the Academia decided to honor him according to “a prestigious career developed in both side of the Atlantic and also for being a versatile actor, director, singer or producer helping Spanish new values". Banderas begun his career in 1982 directed by Pedro Almodóvar in Labyrinth of Passion, Law of Desire, Matador. In 1988 Almodóvar cast him in his internationally acclaimed film, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. The recognition Banderas gained for his role increased two years later when he starred in Almodóvar's controversial Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! His first appearance in The Mambo King opened to him the American industry and he appeared in several high-profile Hollywood movies, especially in the 1990s, including Assassins, Evita, Interview with the Vampire, Philadelphia, Desperado, The Mask of Zorro and Spy Kids. He was the voice of Puss in The Boots in Shrek having later on his own spin off. The 33, Knight of Cups and Automata are among his new films yet to be released. Twice behind the camera, he directed El camino de los Ingleses and Crazy in Alabama. He even tried and succeeded in Broadway with Nine. Four times nominee to the Goyas (Matador,Atame,Two Much and La Piel que habito) he never got the award. Nevertheless he´ll be bringing home his first Goya in February. 20.10.2014 | Goya Awards's blog Cat. : PEOPLE
