This was a very endearing press conference, especially in light of Lars Von Trier’s press conference two days prior for MELANCHOLY (2011) that still had everyone’s head spinning in Cannes. Von Trier’s comments on his Nazi sympathies as well as his protested desire to return to Denmark and focus only on soft and hardcore porn had everyone at Cannes thinking twice about Danish cinema and its praiseworthy art-house directors.
Nicolas Winding Refn is a former student of Von Trier...

Now that the Cannes Film Festival has come to the end of its 12 day
run, we can say that 2011 was full of change and excitement! Lots of
fun, but definitely lots of work and preparation as well! The Closing
Ceremony dished out all the glamour that we have come to expect from the
Cannes Film festival, and DeNiro was more than willing to play the part
as this year’s Jury President, distributing the coveted trophies to the
winning directors and stars of the evening.

Ridiculous and objectionable . . . L’Apollonide: The House of Tolerance
During a May 17th screening of “House of
Tolerance,” many found the film too difficult to watch and stormed out of the
theater in disgust. It’s certainly not a pleasant viewing experience. The film
tells the story of a Paris brothel living it’s last days at the turn of the 20th
century and features many disturbing and graphic images. As a first time Cannes
Film Festival attendee, I had be...

Consider this proposition…..you are an aging film director whose last hit film occurred when Ronald Reagan was President; you were caught with your pants down in a sexual scandal with a stepdaughter 35 years your junior; you have burned countless professional bridges with a reputation for being demanding, exhausting and off-putting. And yet…..you are still at the top of your game. Not many film directors (or lesser mortals) could suffer the sling and arrows of all these misfortunes. But Woo...

One of the most anticipated films in this year's Cannes Film Festival is Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris. One of the reasons for this great anticipation is that this film is the opening film for the festival. Since the premier screening of the movie was practically impossible to obtain tickets for, I managed to get tickets for the second screening at 11pm. Even though the screening was quite late, there were still thousands of people showed up to see the film. The theatre was almost completely...
