Ars Independent Festival

Festival
Festival presentation:

Ars Independent Festival brings to Katowice (Poland) young, brave and provocative cinema, which seeks for its own language, breaks functioning conventions and film styles, strives for themes unnoticed by the others. We present the most diverse achievements of independent authors. By the contests for debuts and second films we are looking for Black Horses of the cinema. Ars Independent is the space devoted to dialogue between filmmakers and the audience, created with belief that cinema as a medium can influence reality. We are crossing geographical, social and political borders in order to disclose unknown cinema and discover both The Other and ourselves.

We are calling for entries to Black Horse Competition and Black Horse of Animation Competition at the 6th edition of Ars Independent Festival . Black Horse Competition is dedicated to feature-length debuts and second films. The directors of films qualified for the competition will compete for the Black Horse statuette and cash prize of 2.500 euro. School animations, animated debuts and second films will compete for the Black Horse of Animation statuette and cash prize of 500 euro.

Machinima – a portmanteau of the words „machine” and „cinema” – are movies made with the help of video games. Between film, animation, demoscene and video games an audio-visual movement was born; movement hard to classify in the current paradigm. The Ars Independent Festival turns its attention to the media borderland, exploring novel phenomena, characteristic to the post-modern, multimedia creativity. Still niche and unknown, the art of machinima is one of the most interesting products of the meeting of new media. The video game section Do you play? invites all machinimators to take part in the non-competitive Machinima Review, which will take place during the 6th Ars Independent Festival.

We accept entries until June 30th 2016
